Got any opinions on the 340wthby or 338-378wthby? Which do you like better? Have you seen any accuracy differences between the two? I'm still researching the big gun project.

The 338/378 WBY will launch a 250 grain bullet 250-300 FPS faster than a 340 WBY. My 338/378 would do 3150 with a 250 grain Nosler Partition loaded over 115 grains of H1000. The 340 WBY will be doing good to reach 2850 with a 250 grain bullet. Accuracy would be all in the quality of the handloads, shooter and firearm. My 338/378 WBY was built on a BBK02 action with a 26" Lilja SS match grade barrel. Had a Brent Clifton synthetic stock that had the integeral bipid. Mounted a Leupold 3.5X10X50mmAO on it. It would only do 3/4" to 1" groups at 100 yards. Had it built to be a long range moose slayer but never had a chance to see how good it was at long range because the moose would not cooperate. Only moose it was credited with was taken at 60 yards and it was probably the most spectacular shot I have ever seen on a big game animal. The Nosler Partition took out the lungs and the blood flew about 15' above the moose in a big spray. Pretty impressive sight. Moose dropped right then and there. I don't like any one 338 cartridge over another as I am a 338 caliber fanatic. Has got to be one of the best calibers for all around big game use. Bullets available from 175 grains all the up to 310 grains.

Thank you. I was thinking of a 200gr combination for "paper work" and maybe larger for the "4 legged work". I am looking for something equally as impressive for both tasks. There are a lot of calibers out there, and this research has taken me in many directions thus far.
