Remington or Winchester

I've been eyeballing two rifles in .22-250 for the last month. One is a Remington 700 VSSF and the other is a Winchester 70 Coyote. I have no idea which one is the better rifle. The Remington has a fluted barrel and a synthetic stock while the Winchester's barrel is not fluted and has a wood stock. The Winchester is much more "aesthetically" pleasing. I am in a quandary. Both rifles are new. The Remington has a $599 price tag and the Winchester has a $549 price tag. In this case, the price has no bearing on the purchase.

I myself prefer the Remington. That's about all I've used in the past 35 years or so. Never had a problem, and they have always shot very well.
It seems that the Remingtons are the choice of most snipers and swat teams also. That probably says something there. Good Luck.

For what it is worth, I have been thinking about a 6mmx.284. I called one of the top gunsmiths in the country yesterday. I asked him which .243 I should bye for the conversion. He said it is a coin toss between the Winchester 70 coyote, And the Savage 112 vbss.

BUY "EM" BOTH AND KEEP THE ONE YOU LIKE THE BEST. EASY ANSWER TO A QUESTION WE ALL FACE.

I know that we all have allegiances to certain manufacturers. I had one bad experience with a Remington 700 and now I am seriously considering one but I can't get over that one bad experience. I have a bad taste in my mouth for Remingtons. I love the Winchesters that I own or have owned and now all of this previous experience is clouding my judgement. Does anyone have any opinion on the specific models stated? True expert opinion/experience with the specific models stated and research into those specific models are the only way that I will be able to make a sound decision without letting bias from previous experiences cloud my judgement. As far as my budget is concerned, this will be a major purchase for me after I throw on a quality scope. I learned a lesson about scope-skimping that I will remember for the rest of my life. I'm leaning towards the Winchester but I'm afraid that stems from previous experience with other models. I am looking for the model that is best-suited for my wants/wishes/needs. I would like a good coyote rifle that can also be suitable for prarie dogs if I ever get the opportunity to hunt them.

You seem to like the Winchester brand. Stick with it. Both are makers of quality firearms. Shoot the one that you feel the most comfortabe with.

idsman i prefer winchester myself, my brother has a remington do something several times that cost him a big buck, on his if you dont get the shells in the mag just right the bolt will not pickup the shell there forre when you pull the triger you just get a click.. never ever had that happen with a winchester ....

IDS, does it have to be a magazine rifle? I've found in my somewhat limited varmint hunting u very rarely get off a second shot. I got a slightly used Ruger 1B hung a big old scope on it an lived happily ever after Just my nsho.

too bad you can't bench both side by side. My bet is that the vssf with the hammer forged barrel and HS precision stock will shoot circles around it's competition. It's a sendero chambered for a varmint caliber and named something else. BTW, $599 is a great price. Is that an every day price or some sort of blowout special?

A great rifle with a junk scope,....is junk.

I called up one of my buddies at the store and was informed that one of the guys at the store owned it but never took it out of the box. It's never seen the light of day nor has it ever been fired. The tag says "NIB" but I think they meant "LNIB". The one next to it on the shelf is $100 more but that one has never been previously owned.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

If you wish to give big green another chance, dealer cost is around $675+UPS on that one. Just some more info to aid in your dilemma resolution, hope it helps.
