Ever have a co-worker you thought might go postal?

Seems like a rash of "disgruntled" workers that flip out and take revenge on co-workers. I'm starting to look for danger signs in my co-workers with this in mind....got one fellow in particular that makes racist remarks, hates his previous employer for firing him, thinks David Duke should be President, and wants to know how to obtain a full auto....gonna keep a close eye on this guy.

Got an iffy guy working the parts counter here. We're allowed to have firearms at work here but he brings his gun bag in one hand and briefcase full of medication in the other. The guy is always PO'd and stressed, smokes a bunch, and pops Valiums like M&M's to help him deal with the stress (What stress? I ran the parts dept for two years[xx(]). He just recently started bringing a handgun to work which raises a red flag in my head. Guess I'll be watching him closer[;)]

We have a guy at work that talks to himself even with other people around. It's really freaky when he argues with himself arms swinging and everything.

I used to have an employee that I fired for drinking on the job. Came after me with a pistol that night. Took his pistol off of him and ran him off. I threw it in the Ohio river. Told him the next time I saw him I would kill him. Later ( about 6 months to a year later), I found out he tried to commit suicide and was committed. Not an episode I would like to live over again. Lucky for me he was drunk the night he came for me and I had about ten minutes notice that he was coming or it could have had a different ending.

Eeek! That's not reassuring, we're contemplating firing our parts guy for absenteeism due to "brown-bottle flu". Man, now y'all got me worried[;)] Guess I ought to bring an extra clip and some Kevlar this week[:D]

I work alone and for myself so I don't have to worry about that, but some of my customers need some serious help.

Yep. I worked with a guy who saw his cousin blown up right in front of him in Viet Nam. He always made suicidal and homicidal comments at work. He worked two 8-hour shifts every day and commuted long distances between those jobs. He slept maybe an hour or two a night and he looked it. He drank coffee by the gallon and smoked a couple packs a day and went through a couple tins of Copenhagen while he was working. He mentioned that he took an M-60, an M-16 and a 1911 apart and mailed them home from Nam. He said they were ready whenever he went "snap".

I had a guy that worked for me about 10 yrs ago.The boss was afraid of him and was getting threatning notes left in the suggestion box.He thought they were comming from him and I`m sure they were.He was afraid to fire him so he transfered him to my department because he figured I could get along with him and there was no other place for him. He`d get so mad he would foam at the mouth like a rabid dog.I told the wife if he ever went off and started killing people to sue the pants off the store where I worked. I started writing letters to my senators and congressmen to back a concealed weapons permit in our state. Eventually the problem was eliminated when the entire company did away with our department.Concealed carry finally past here but not until just a few yrs ago.

In working for various places since 1963, I have run into 2 wackos that I have had to fire, threatned but they did not follow through, except for a fistfight on the shop floor.

Kingjoey - All parts people are strange in one form or another, just like computer programmers...it takes a very differant personality.
    Hope yours bathes!

Now about those remarks about talking to yourself, cuss'n n fuss'n, and surf'n those gun forums - I'm guilty!

I have fired some real nut jobs but maybe because they had heard I was a "gun guy" they decided not to mess with me.

My truck was vandalized on two occasions that coincided with terminations so I always thought that they were related but no proof.

I think most people are capable of this, especially a long time employee. Take a man who has given 20-30 years of his labor to a company and then let him go and anything could happen.

Would the urge to do this be considered going postal? "Drop that sucker down two, mash on it and make that kitty scream up the zipper during rush our traffic on the Jersey green stamp" If so I have thought about it[:D][}:)][;)][}:)][}:)][:D]

I shared an office with a fellow for several years that moved to Canada. He couldn't find a good job and finally it got to him. He got up one morning and shot his two sons and himself. I had never had any idea that he was the kind that would do something like that. You never know what will set someone off.

No, but I had one that thought I would. We were both in the computer field and we were talking one day and he asked if I was worried about Y2K. I said no, I'm not worried, if worse comes to worse I've got guns, I can get food.
He shot me this suprised look and told me he couldn't believe I would do that. It suprised me because he knew I was a hunter. Anyway, to make a long story short he thought I meant I could always rob people using my guns - not go hunting. [:D]
We still laugh about that when we see each other. [:)]

Worked with a guy who "was" cerified with papers . Made me really think on a few occasions . The man was a pure survivalist . There wasn't much he didn't know about chemicals , weapontry , herblore , ect ,. Before meshed aluminum was highly regulated he made the best bottle rockets I've ever seen . Made the ground shake . If worst comes to worst I'd want him on my side . Be a bad enemy to have . Nice enough guy do anything for you , but ain't that what the neighbors always say !

Yep, I'm the guy that always gets that label, just because I like guns so much, pretty silly really. Because of all the packages I received in the desert I really started hearing it. My platoon was being called the 'Militia Platoon', as it seemed we were being supplied by our own private source, which was deemed to be the 'Michigan Militia'. It was kind of funny at first, but it did begin to get on my nerves. Now in the new office I work in, I still get it, but now its 'Militia Man', again, its cause of the packages that I was still getting after switching from the platoon job to the office job. Its all good hearted kidding, but it makes you wonder what people really think about you just because you have a love of guns and a lot of friends who think the same way you do. Course I dont imagine it helps that I voice my opinion loudly about my discontent with the government and idiots I work with. Some days you think you might indeed be capable of doing something stupid, but the scary thing is there are a lot of people out there not nearly as rational as I/we are, and those are the ones to worry about. I always tell the guys when the start kidding me about going postal, 'Dont worry I hit what I aim at and nothing else, just dont be the reason I come in shooting'. Thats always a conversation ender. Then to lighten the mood I have to tell them not to worry, I enjoy guns too much to ever do anything that would prevent my owning them, which nearly any crime would. I've never really worked with anyone that I thought would go postal, but I guess thats due to the military members being pretty stable, for the most part. I consider myself lucky.

I'm the one at work that people think is a goof-ball. Too bad one gets that label just because he likes guns and the US constitution. Oh well, I have thick skin and can take it.

I go to a law school in the SF bay area. There is a guy at school who talks about guns non-stop, has a screensaver with all the USGI weapons on his laptop, and is basically obsessed. He's also on a hair trigger and is a real hothead. People in our class have reported him to the dean because they thought he would go postal. Through a careful inquiry I learned that he's a former Army artilleryman and machinegunner who lives with his immediate family and young siblings so he doesn't own any weapons nor does he plan to while he lives there. It's funny how the people you might most expect to go postal would never do so. Contrast that guy with someone else who failed out and threatened some instructors. They immediately got a restraining order and sent a memo to all the students telling us not to have contact with the guy and to watch out if we saw him on the property. Unfortunately, I can't get a CCW permit in my area :-(
