want a muzzle loader, but i know there is one that i know of and maybe others, but you can change the caliber from .45 to .50. what makes allow you to do this? just plan on deer hunting cause a shotgun is not that great at a distance of 100yrds, and only being able to use slugs. next year i want to be able to hunt in Ohio, and this would have me covered.

I have a Thompson Center Renegade. I have 2 breechplugs and 2 locks for both percussion and flitlock. I can change from one to the other in 15 minutes. The barrel is worn out. I am trying to find a replacement barrel for this and all I can find is thru Thompson Custom. They are telling me that I should not have interchangable breechplugs and I cannot buy another barrel to accept them. The barrels they have have non removeable plugs and I will have to buy 2 barrels. Is there anyplace that will sell a barrel to accept my plugs? Should I buy a new gun? Am I wasting my time with this? I like the dual trigger setup and as far as the new guns it is hard or expensive to find flintlock guns like this. PA muzzleloader season is flintlock only but I still want percussion for when I go to Ohio to hunt. What would you do?

How on earth did you wear out a BP barrel? So long as you clean it after every shooting and oil it, soft lead bullets- even harder jacketed sabots, etc.- shouldn't wear it out. Pressure and velocity just ain't there.

7mm, I bow down before you, no one has ever worn out a barrel on a muzzle loader before, except for those guys I hang with, but they shoot A LOT, how did you do that? You must be a reenactor or something eh? If not, my hats off to you. Now you got a problem, that will teach you to pollute the world with your evil lead balls, he he! Found it, try this, no its not a web address, remember how to dial a phone, ha, its the phone number for Dixie Gun Works, out of Tenn. tell them your problem, they can probably help, I think they're the largest muzzle loader supplier on earth. 1-800-238-6785

Turner Kirkland of DGW died at least a few years ago. I believe his heirs sold off at least some of the gun and auto collection.

v35...I went down to Dixie Gunworks this summer and they still had the car collection on display in their new building. $2.00 got you into the car side of the building. I don't know if it was a reduced collection but it was still pretty impressive. Most impressive thing I saw, though, was the incredible collection of original Confederate pistols. That collection was mind boggling. I'm not sure how much they would now be worth but what got me was how so many of them had been found stashed away in old people's homes over the years. Beach

Beach and robs guns, thanks for the tips. I will definately check into it. As far as wearing it out, I bought the gun used and it went thru some abuse, I have had it for awhile now and I put an awfull lot of powder and lead thru it, I just cant get it to shoot right anymore and the balls need to be double or tripple patched now to get them to go snug in the barrel. if I use one patch a newborn baby can seat it. Let me know buck if it needs adopted, I have a boy who will be needing a smoke pole for next season. I have a rule in my house, new hunters do not get a rifle untill they kill with a muzzle loader and a bow.(makes them respect hunting more)
