I've been "browsing" GB (we all know where this leads) and I keep checking out the Yugoslavian SKS's. Well, anybody have one? Price is right and . . . well . . . do I really need a reason?

Why are stripper clips needed to load sks mags?Whay accuracy should be expected at 100 and 300 yds?Can they be retro-fitted to .308 or .223 at a reasonable cost? Thanks

    Hello folks!

Is there any bubba way to remove a sight drum
    from an SKS?
I have a tool on the way but I want to put a fire sight
in it and would like to shoot today.
    I already tried a punch-no luck.
    Thanks-ron

I'm thinking of ordering a Yugo SKS from Aim Surplus. Has anyone had any experience with AIM, good or bad? Also does any one here in the Gulf Coast of Florida area know of any ranges to shoot it at. Thanks! Any experiences with the Yugo's?[8D]

Ok I need some help. I'm trying to decide if I should sell/trade off my Yugo 59/66. I bought it unissued and I have only fired maybe 40-50 rounds at most through it. I just don't shoot it and it just sits in the safe. I just don't want to regret selling/trading if the become rare and hard to get

Who makes the best mags for a SKS?

no to the .308 or .223 not worth the cost, you can load from the top of a fixed mag by hand if you want to but these are BATTLE rifles designed to load as quicly as possible this is not a hunting rifle, {of course you can use it as one} stripper clips are the fastest way to load 10 rounds in a fixed mag. 300 yds is not what the 7.62X39 round is designed for.good luck

Stripper or charger clips aren't needed to load the SKS any more than they are needed to load Mausers or Springfields. They are the most effective way of rapidly loading these rifles and avoiding loose ammunition in pockets and bandoliers. It's hard to find out their accuracy becausethere is no decent scope mount for them that doesn't shake loose.I'd also like to see them in 223 and 308. While the action is long enough for the 223,a magazine conversion would be extensive and the bolt face would need welding and machining. A nice conversion would be either the 22PPC or the 6mmPPC. These match cartridges, being based on the 7.62x39 case, would require only a barrel change and playing with the gas port diameter to get it right. You're then giving up the opportunity to shoot the cheapo Russian ammo.

Investigator-Why buy an SKS chambered for 7.62x39 when one can buy an M-14 Chambered for 7.62X54????Hint, hint, nudge, nudge!!!!The reasoning behind using stripper clips in an SKS is that I go to the range to shoot, not to load mags, above and beyond getting an SKS that accepts AK mags, you have a few options. The MOST reliable system for an SKS is the 20 round fixed mag, stripper clips feed reliably into it, and ya get a little more bang for yer buck than with the 10 rounders. After that you have detatchable mags, made out of Zytel and steel. I've never seen a Zytel SKS worth a damn, but I've only seen 14 or 15 of 'em. Steel is the way to go there, but depending on the SKS, country it was made in and your pataince level & skill, you may or may not spend a month of Sundays trying to get the D#$% thing to feed right.

If you do buy one (sks) try to find a true russian one. They are so much better that the chineese cheese. And they are alright if you just want a plinker. Me and my kids love to shoot hubcaps and other stuff with them. You can hit almost anything at 50 yards with mine but after that, well , a crap shoot!

just for the heck of it Myself and a freind sets up clay pigions just beyond the 100yd mark up on the dirt bank at the local range for some entertainment with the .22's. One day there was 50 or so of these bright orange targets laying out there and I had my bushy and CHINESE CHEESE(lol) sks with me. the bushy is scoped and dang accurate at 100 yds. We decided to have an off hand comp between the two of us. I took the the bushy and he the unscoped sks, after a few shots and getting used to the gun the 'ol boy kicked my but shooting at those things off hand with an unscoped sks and I had a scoped AR-15! made a believer out of me that I don't want him or anybody else shooting at me with one of those things. He said it really suprised him how accurate it was once he got used to it. BTW he shoots off hand comp .22 so he is a better shot than I am and he can shoot a gun to its limits.
