.35 Rem

I have heard that a lot of people don't like .35s. I use a Marlin 336 ADL .35 and I love it. In my family, we have taken a lot of deer in heavy brush with that gun, and it has great knock down power. What is your take on the .35 as a brush gun?

I still use my big 7mm in the brush, it takes two fast shots to get the deer. First shot mows the brush over and makes a new field, then while the deer is standing there wetting himself the second shot simply picks him up and places him neatly on the back of the truck already cut and wrapped! 7mm ultra mag, what a gun!

if its not broke, don't fix it! just keep on enjoying the steaks, chops, berger, & sausage, smile & chuckle all the way to the table as they cut the 35 REM down.

I saw a doe get hit with the .50 BMG. All I can say is, DAMN! I like the 35 rem, it's a hell of a brush buster and I wish I still had one.

Just like the idea I always held for cars.....there is no replacement for cubic displacement....... And there is never too much velocity or energy or knockem stiff power for deer! Killem dead I say! And with a thunderous roar the mighty ultra mag speaks BBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!dead deer

I have a 35 Rem in a model 141 and one in model 81. I wouldn't hesitate to take either for whitetails in the woods. It's a great caliber or it would have disappeared (except in my gun safe)like it's brethren, the 25, 30 and 32.

7mm, Thats why I say you need a .50 now theres some displacement! Maybe a couple of grenades for backup and a nice little line of claymores for their escape route. "just funnin" As you know displacement or power means nothing if you can't control it. Transmissions are vital. Most people cannot control a 7mm UM due to recoil, and that much energy really isn't needed anyway. Kinda like using a 110 horse John Deer tractor to cut your lawn, It works but your neighbors will laugh.

I have read so many people say they do not think the .35 is a good brush gun. And everytime I read some nitwit talk ill of the .35, I think about my uncle who has killed over 30 deer in the heaviest brush imaginable. Not only does he kill them, but most just drop right in their tracks.

Hey butcher- I think an Ithaca 12 guage works best in the brush, assuming some relative of a guy who shoots a 35 doesnt stick the barrel in the mud.

To be honest with you gunnut the um doesnt really kick that bad, no worse than my trusty 760 gameblaster in 30-06, had the 7mm built for going out west without getting in to the big .300 mags, they scare me. One thing about the 7mm um ,,,with the brake on it MY GOD IS IT LOUD! Salzo, I was not knocking the .35 I never shot one so I have no clue what they are like. I just like joking around. besides that the .35 is probably not made for what I had the 7mm made for. Long range with plenty of power, I'm not good enough to get close to them, I need to snipe deer from atleast 300 yards!

7mmultramag- I was not refering to what you said, or anyone else for that matter. I was speaking mostly about what I have read in books with respect to the .35 cartridge.

Agreed, a 12 gauge with a Sabot works too.

7mm RUM is probably one of the most over rated calibers to ever hit the market. remington will probably stop chambering rifles for it within 3 years.. whereas the 35 remington will be around after we're all dead....

I wouldnt say overrated, out shoots the stw, rem mag and the weatherby 7mm mag was a total wast of brass, speaking from experience, I had the rem mag, rebarreled it and chambered in weatherby mag, accuraccy SUCKED!!!!!!! went to the stw, shot better than the rem mag,Had it rechambered to the um with a complete and I mean COMPLETE rebuild of the gun, nothing left on it that says rem except for the action, and it chronographs higher than the stw and the groups are incredible. Those who dont like the um probably shoot factory ammo and I havent found any of my rifles that will shoot factory ammo as well as this. It is only my opinion but but I think when I can get a 7mm to shoot 160 grain sierra boatails at 3300fps and group less than 1/2 inch at 100 yards I'm doing good. no other 7mm chambering I had can do that. Maybe I got lucky with this but I love it to death. Only reason I brag about it on here is to get a rise out of people, just to humor you. Because just like eveything else out there eveybody has a favorite something and this is my way of goofing off. sorry if I offended you but anytime you want to get together with sandbags and a chrono let me know.

naaa, you not bother me, and I agree, 160 grains at 3300 fps is very attractive, it just doesnt beat any of the other overbored 7mags, I have always been a huge 7mm fan..I currently shoot a 300 weatherby mag, I need the extra bullet weight down range, plus 180 grains at 3300 fps aint too bad either so keep hammering away, and you got to admit any 7mm is better then a any 270 or 25-06

Youre cheating if you are getting 3300fps out of that!! best I could ever get out of my vanguard was 3150 using IMR(I think it was )7828(may be wrong). I like a weatherby for the power and velocities but I have one problem with a weatherby. Ask any gunsmith out there and they will tell you that in order to acheive those velocities they excessivly throat the barrel due to pressure. Why weatherby does this I don't know because the 300 r. um will keep right up with the weatherby and no big throat. I am an accuracy freak. I tried everything I could to get that weatherby to go under 1" at 100 and could not do it. I gave up on it and it has been sitting in the cabinet for 3 years. I chambered that 7mm in wtby and learned a hard lesson. I bought the vanguard after that thinking maybey my 7mm just wasnt up to snuff. When I went to the stw things started to look better. Then it was a matter of reading about the um and I drooled. I like any gun that Kills deer dead, I have nothing against any caliber. infact my nef handi rifle in .223 will go hunting tomorrow just to prove to a freind of mine I don't need a cannon to kill deer. He thinks anything bigger than his 7mm-08 is a waste. Anyhows, I'm bored and its raining and I don't feel like getting wet for deer right now.got a few in archery season and cant seem get in the mood.(it's more fun with a bow anyhow!!)
