Redwood City offering reward to help find people firing guns on New Year's Eve (Published Friday, December, 28, 2001 5:10AM) Redwood City (AP) - - Redwood City police are renewing their annual "Silent Night" campaign to cut down on New Year's Eve gunfire - and this year there's an added incentive. The city will pay a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest of anybody who fires a gun to celebrate the arrival of two-thousand-two.Police have distributed fliers to city neighborhoods telling residents about the reward and listing a special gunshot hotline number. The flier also reminds celebrants that it's a felony to discharge a firearm - and the district attorney's office will prosecute all offenders.Police will also be using some fancy technology to track down shooters. They have a system which uses sensors around the city to compute the source of gunshots and send officers to the scene.
