Did you see the Draft commercial

Girl is looking at this dude's artwork or writing or something and blowing smoke rings up his butt about how wonderful he is and how he has a great future ahead of him. He says,"yeah unless I get drafted". She says, "drafted by who?" And he says," the administration wants to draft me to go fight in a foreign land." Then he gives the camera this look like if it wasn't for Bush he would be famous and getting laid by this admiring young lady. Then the voice over says,"They want to draft you to fight their wars!"

No, but I was too much in shock to notice much more than the outrageousness of it.I thought it was going to be about condoms. I'll watch for it again and see who put it together.

Well it's about like the republican financed commercials showing throughout the bible belt saying that Kerry will ban the bible. Got some of those old women in WV digging up the old civil war guns from under the outhouse.

They sure don't want to talk about it, but it's very likely there will be calls next spring. The local boards are all up to speed, and intake can start with less than 120 days of lead time. Navy, AF, USMC recruiting levels are all adequate at present, but the Army will be short 30,000 actives this FY. Up to now, the shortfall has been made up through extensive use of Guard and Reserve call-ups, but recruiting levels there have dropped dramatically, along with record lows in retention rates.

Army brass, naturally, does not want the hassle of training and integrating draftees into what has been an all-volunteer force for almost 30 years, but with manpower levels dropping and no bottom in sight, there may be little choice.

Don't think that this is a politically-driven choice either. A draft may well be required regardless of the outcome of the present election cycle.

    Trooper-

Our 13B/F guys are working as Information Operations here in theater. They usually are attachted to us to call fire missions (Paladins, AC-130's) for Infantry Platoons, and everyone of them is just as hard as any grunt. Good folks, all.(BTW-They did gat to call one 120mm call for fire, and did register fires with some AC 130's) I can ask one of my pals to write up a job description, outlining low and high points of his MOS-

    WOW-Wrong thread, eh?[:I]

The draft is BS, I'm almost positive that it was a New York State Democrap who introduced the bill, Charles ......... At any rate, the bill was sunk about a month ago and he even said, no chance of revival for at least a year.

IMHO, I am ALL for the draft,in the form of MANDATORY SERVICE- given the following-
    A. You need not serve in the Armed Forces, a two year stint in Americorps or Peace Corps will suffice.
    B. Deferrments are availible for 4F types, those who demonstrate particularly strong Academic pontential, and hardship cases, (Dad's dead, Mom's sick, 14 siblings (Remember Audie Murphey though!) or cases such as athletes with Olympic proportioned talent are concerned.
    C. The Right to vote is withheld until the Mandatory Service is completed.

That was Charley Rangel. He did it as some bizarre convoluted attempt to try and make a statement on how the Armed Forces only send "young black men off to die in war", so he wants to beat them to it and make sure whitey gets his share, too.

    No, I'm not joking.

As for the commercial, I'm shocked they didn't take that avenue long ago. As I mentioned in a previous thread, the 18-21 age group's primary reasons for hating Bush are his stupidity, the fact that he looks like a monkey, and the fact that he's going to take them away from their X-boxes and lofty pot-fueled political debates at college to go fight and die overseas.

Think they give a snot about any of the stuff Kerry's spouting? Of course not. They care about what's 6 inches in front of their nose, and that's generally MTV, which either itself or through the unexpectedly braindead artists it sponsors is doing it's utmost to promulgate this whole thing.

Last week McCain himself said there was NO possibility of a draft.
quote:Think they give a snot about any of the stuff Kerry's spouting?
Do they give a snot about anything? Like for instance, their own future? When are people going to wake up and see the terrorist want to see to it that there is no future for America?

Before they can convince you that rights emanate from them (the government), they must first eliminate God. They are working 24/7 to accomplish this.

If the people have become so apathetic that they will not vote out all the liberal scum (republican and democrat alike), the only solution is Constitutional Convention II the sequel. Let's get it right this time.

That would require the 18-21 crowd to display the tiniest modicum of foresight or delay of gratification. Y'know...the hard right over the easy wrong.

But like I said, 9/10ths of these kids have never had morality, honor, or civic responsibility suggested to them, much less mandated to them.

They'll ignore the most egregious and horrifying offenses right outside their doors, but impose on their right to be lazy, selfish, obnoxious and bratty and suddenly they're quoting Civil Disobedience and staging sit-ins.

Oddly enough, these same characteristics in our youth used to be lamented by ultra-Leftists as well. In the words of Jello Biafra, "We've got our college kids so interested in beer, they don't even care if we start manufacturing germ bombs again! Put a nuclear stockpile in their back yard, they wouldn't even know what it looked like."

The difference is that the Left learned how to adapt their propaganda to appeal to these kids a lot faster than the Right ever could. After all, even when the country is one day overrun by Liberals, the Conservatives will still be the fabled black-sheep, the Goldsteins of their little 1984-esque Utopia. We've been demonized to the point where there's no going back.

I dont know what this artists problem is. So much of great, art, literature, music, etc, is created under the diress of war. Misery often creates the greatest artistic inspiration. Many great art works have been created during time of war, often while the artist witnesses the evils of war first hand.
One of my favorite pieces of music, "Quartet for the end of time", was written while the composer was in a prisoner of war camp during world war 2. Messiaen did not let his captivity stifle his creativity-quite the contrary, the quartet was the greatest piece he ever wrote.
So if this fella is an artist, he should welcome war, and go to the front line. Like many great artist of the past, he may find some great inspiration as the bullets are flying past his head.

Don't these imbeciles know that the president can't invoke the draft. It has to be approved by both houses of Congress. Didn't they see what the House of Representatives just did to Charlie Rangel's bill? It was defeated by 400+ to 2. Even Rangel voted against his own bill.

Like Herr Goebbels said, "Tell a lie often enough and people will start to believe it."

Well, the same could be said about declaring war-but as we have seen many times in the past fifty years, declarations of war by congress are not necessary to go to war.

Salzo: Please explain to the rest of us how a president can invoke the draft without the consent of congress.

I surely don't know how this could be accomplished.

    Your mileage may vary.

    Waddya mean?
As long as the people allow him, the president can do whatever he wants. And considering how the Bushbots have swallowed everything Bush has casted out hook line and sinker, I dont see why the draft ordered via executive order, or as a war time power of the commander and chief, would be any different.
Im not saying it will happen, but it could.

chunkstyle--We are currently +16% for our current milestone. FY '05 just started. How could we be behind by 30,000? It's not like they require 30,000 new recruits per month. That's an impossible figure.

These imbeciles do know that, but that's not what matters. They're just relying on the impressionable youth and idiot mothers of America not knowing.

Can the president reinstate the draft?

No ,not by himself ,but he can bring forth legislation to do so ,correct?

So with that being understood ,the president does ,and can have more to do with reinstating the draft if he chooses

Take it out of text how ever you like to disprove a statement ,"the president will reintroduce the draft" ,of course there is more to it ,he can get it done if he wants to he's the president

Now is there a reason to bring back the draft at this time ?, no ,but who's to say we wont get spread so thin in the next few years we will have to ,one good strike on our soldiers with these wmd's ,and what do you know ,we need more soldiers ,we could go into Syria ,iran ,north Korea next year

    Being the worlds police is a dangerous job ,but someone has to do it ,{or do they}

It doesn't matter. As soon as Kerry gets elected he's going to squat and...er, well, produce two more Army divisions and double the Special Forces.
