Universal health care...yeah, right

Heard an interesting little exchange this morning on Glenn Beck's show. He was talking to immigrants, asking how they felt about the US after they got here.

One guy was from Zimbabwe. He illustrated an example of the things we just take for granted. He said he went to the library, and was amazed! Here in the US the library is free! He was tickled to get a library card. Ever meet anyone that had any emotion at all about a library card?

One guy was from Canada. He said all you have to do is have a goal, and be willing to work for it, and you can do anything you want to here, unlike Canada, where everything is controlled by the government.

The best one of all was the guy from England, though. He met his wife in England. She was an American, visiting. After they got married, she wanted to come back to Florida, so he said "what the hell", and moved here. Beck asked him to compare the employment market here to England's. The guy said it is much easier here to find what you want. He said that there was a lot of work in England, but you have to take what you can get, especially if you have a college degree. He said it's very difficult to find specialized jobs according to one's major. The main thing that impressed me was when he discussed health care. Beck asked him "didn't you hate leaving the universal healthcare that they have in England, for free?" The guy told him, "it's far from free". In England, every item you purchase has a 17.5% "value added tax" (sales tax). Also, income tax ranges from 40% to 70%, depending on how far up the economic ladder you are. He also said that most people have to wait eighteen months to a year for an operation.

Some interesting perspectives from recent transplants from socialist countries- you liberals might ought to think about it.
