This couldn't happen...Need to Vent!!!

So you will understand my "need to vent" here are the particulars....
I have spent the last three years restoring this beautiful Gold colored 1974 Ranchero Squire. It has a woodgrained GT dashboard which is full gauges, vinyl pillow top split bench seats, power windows, cruise control, tilt wheel, power brakes and steering, Custom built and blueprinted 1970 351-C 4V 380 HP engine, married to a Race built FMX Transmission running into a Detroit locker 3:70 to 1 Positrace Rear End. This Car has long * dark brown carpeting, a custom installed 1970 Mustang Floor Shift transmission. There hasn't been a stone unturned in building this car!

Here's my reason to vent.......Holy Tomatoes!!!!

A "Minority Member of our American Society between the age of 70 and 80 drove his pickup, (1994 Mazda), into the rear end of my "Parked" Ranchero, (Yeah, parked at the curb in front of my house) at the speed of some 50 to 60 miles per hour!!! Using the Spanish language, he explainted to the responding Cop, ""I didn't see any carz on thee road so I pushed on the gass......." .....This makes me mad!! Wonder it didn't kill the stupid old fool!!!

Now what? I have over $15,000 invested in this car......Yep, the fool didn't have any insurance......no driver's license.....Yep, I can't believe it......my own personal 9-11!!!

All this because I parked in front of my own house on the street at the curb....legally and not causing a problem to anyone.....!

Thanks for letting me vent......OH I think I'm Offff!

That sucks, especially since the A-hole doesn't have any insurance. So what next will your insurance cover it? And if so will your premium go up? I wish you luck with this one, going to small claims won't help much but try maybe this guy has a gun collection. Any further action will cost even more(Lawyers). I wish you the best hopefully it will all work out.

Hold On Thar---- Why would you park this gem on the main street in front of your house? That is plain STUPID, also why did you not have this gem insured for the full amount of it's value?.Don't you know the peckerheads often Aim for outr treasures!. I do know how you feel though i had a 16 yr old kid pull right in front of my 70 ss L88 Nova gem which i did have insured for the Big bucks. Thank god it only crunched up the right fender core support and bumper grill included so it was an easy fix for sure. I sure feel for you though be a rear ender as those are hard to fix without the proper parts which are hard to find. Good luck on your repairs. PS i almost grabbed the kid and strangled him but he was so scared i felt sorry for him and even called his dad and told him not to be too hard on the kid.

I hate to sound insensitive, but it occurs to me that you might want to start by changing your screen name to:
    Totaledoutpieceofcrappaul ??
Seriously though, why do the rest of us have to meet the insurance requirement??
I pay a healthy premium and haven't had an insurance claim in 20 years!
Oh,,,, then there's my wife,,,,, now I remember why my premium is so high,,,,,, Never mind!!

RancheroPaul: I was hit by an uninsured Mexican national also. I never saw a dime from him, until my lawyer got involved. All it took was one letter to him politely explaining that the local INS office would love to hear how he is a blight on our community. It eluded to possible deportation, a very real and legal possibility. About 3 weeks later I get an envelope full of $250 money orders. Enough to cover my damage and rental car. Give it a try, just might work for you too.

Give your kids roots and wings. and dont forget the guns!!

That guy has no insurance, no license, and I'll bet, no green card. These Latinos come up here, having never driven anything faster than a burro and buy a car and drive it completely illegally and the cops just let them go. I think around here the cops are overwhelmed by so many illegal Latinos driving around recklessly. The little illegal Guatemalan I work with told me that he has been involved in two wrecks while he had no insurance or license and he didn't even get a ticket. He said the wrecks were not his fault.

Surely you have full coverage insurance on your vehicle?

after your lawyer informs him of the INS' interest in him, I would suggest that his vehicle be sold to you for $1 and sold to whomever you can sell it to. Then, all he has to come up with in cash, is the balance of the damage.

Also going that fast in a residential area would warrant an arrest. All of those things together should land this guy in jail. Although he is Old and Fragile. After all the fines this guy is not going to have a dime to give you. I think the police fines should go to the person who was affected by the unlawful activity. That way you be be more likely to get payment...

We had a problem of late with illegals, drugs, pursuit..etc..and found out hey had been turned over to INS and deported, not only once but twice..and here we are with them again..so instead of INS..we filed enough charges to put them away for 30 plus years..

You think that your car getting hit sucks? Well this happened to me.
Last year, a woman driving on a suspended license with no insurance ran over my daughter and broke her leg in two places. She then tried to flee the scene but luckily someone chased her down and told her they had her license plate number and that they would turn her in if she didn't go back. She then returned to the scene of the accident. My daughter was coming to a football game with some of our friends where myself, my wife and my other two kids were allready seated inside the stadium. They asked us to come to the press box over the loud speaker. When we found out what happened we ran to the scene. My daughter was in an ambulance and they were getting ready to leave for the hospital. My wife went in the ambulance and I went back and got the van and started toward the hospital. As I drove past the scene I saw two woman laughing and carrying on with the two officers that were at the scene. I later found out that they were the people who hit and drove away from my daughter. Later, a cop showed up at the hospital to get my signature on an accident report. He insured me that this woman would be dealt with. What a bunch of worthless they turned out to be. I later found out that the cops that were talking to the women at the scene allowed them to drive away (No insurance/Suspended license). They didn't take statements from any witnesses only the two that hit my daughter. They said that they couldn't take statements from our friends who had seen the accident because they would be biased, (like the people who hit my daughter wouldn't be).The only thing they were sited for was driving without insurance and she was fined $200. I tried to get the chief of police involved even and it did no good. I tried to get a lawyer to take the case but nobody wanted it since the didn't have any insurance. I lost alot of respect for the coppers over that incident and still don't think much of my local P.D. or the people who are employed there. I know that not all cops suck, but the ones I had to deal with sure didn't reflect well on them. Oh ye, I almost forgot, The cops that took the accident report didn't even finish filling out the paperwork. My wife got a copy of it and we took it to the chief, he said, and I quote, " Ye, weve had problems from those two guys before about this type of stuff". Un Freakin Believable. I got stuck paying for all the medical bills, physical therapy ect.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

Supermonkey- The area of town where my little illegal amigo lives is named Chamblee. It is so overrun with immigrants that now in Atlanta it is widely known as Chambodia. Most of the newcomers are Latino. In the mornings at the street corners of the 7-11s and other stores you can see hundreds of Latinos waiting for work as day laborers. Most if not all are illegal. Who knows how many illegals are in Chamblee but there must be thousands of them.So if you are a LEO, before your shift is half over in Chamblee you have encountered probably 10 Latinos driving around with no license, no insurance.Plus you can't talk to 'em, they don't speak English. When I was a kid in Chamblee if you got stopped for no license you went to jail and stayed a while. In those days there were no Latinos in Chamblee. If one Chamblee cop locked up every Latino bandito he encountered for driving violations, the jail would fill up in a day. They got no money for bail, they aren't going to wire their daddy in Guatemala for bail. There is no money in Guatemala. Some of what I'm saying is speculation but it seems that the system is overwhelmed by the flood of Latinos.

Sorry to hear about the Ranchero, Paul --

Hope you get it all worked out to your satisfaction, if that's possible.

He could've parked in front of his home for just a minute, went inside to get something and the Ranchero was smacked!

    Sheesh!

Well, after much discussion, I think this is what the insurance company will do for me. I have something called "Uninsured Motorist" coverage which will do certain things like maybe paying my deductible. My Collision coverage should pay for the car less the deductible which is only $100. Appears better than it might be, though. It seems we now have to go about furnishing receipts for work, upgrades, parts, etc., to justify what the car is worth....Oh, Boy!

Worst thing is this. Smashed very hard on the right rear for some reason. Hit a little less hard on the left rear, sort of like an angle to the right. Floor of bed is like an "Ocean" and has about 3 nice waves in it. Right rear quarter is crunched, right side frame bent down around the axle. Rear quarter pushed into passenger door which was pushed forward into the rear edge of the front fender, which distorted the cowl and actually broke the windshield from the twisting on the right side of windshield opening. Also on the right side, immediately behind the passenger window where the metal goes up to the roof even is all crinkled up......hell of an impact! Doesn't appear there would be much sense to try to repair this mess....I think its gone! Insurance company will pursue the Old Man responsible and try to recoup their loss. I would imagine I will get a healthy premium increase at the least and maybe even cancelled at the most. Haven't had a claim of any kind in over 10 years......have to wait and see! I guess it could be worse.....PHhhhoooey!

The good thing is no one was sitting in the car......I still don't know why the Old Man didn't kill himself......good testimonial for seat belts and airbags.......

Sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one. That has to be hard to take.

Keep in mind that, at least here in Texas, about 25% of the cars you encounter have no insurance. Not good odds.

And it seems the uninsured people are the worst drivers.

Bring on true "no-fault" insurance!!! The insurance companies don't want it, because they would make less money, but it would cure the uninsured driver problem.

Yep too much damage to try to repair. I would get your settlement and tell them you want to buy the car back and look for a clean donor and rebuild it using your original parts. If you have a friend in the automobile trade or know of someone in the auto trade have them write a statement as to the worth and approx value of your ranchero. I had a 74 ranchero that i loved certainly a handy car/truck combo. I FEEL YOUR PAIN.

You should have followed him home. If he is anything like the ones in my area he probably has a customized truck worth about 30 grand siting in his driveway. Fair exchange I'd say.

    Dang that hurts.

What do you want for that motor?

Maybe you could build a plywood & 2x4 box bed on it so you could sale it to the guy who hit you, and then he could take it and sale watermelons out of the back of it along the highway. He would need the job to pay me what I felt it was worth, or I would be that dudes worst nightmare in a nice sort of way.
