Washington-AP -- Some foreigners will no longer be allowed to buy guns or ammunition in the U-S.The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has been considering such a move for several years. But officials say the September eleventh attacks prompted faster action. The rule takes effect February 19th and applies to so-called non-immigrant aliens. These are people traveling temporarily to the U-S for business or pleasure; people studying in the U-S but maintaining a residence abroad; and certain foreign workers. It doesn't apply to legal immigrants.

I guess foreigners never get assaulted or mugged in the Good Ol' USA. Or maybe they have enough people watching them that they are safe.

They hijacked the planes with boxcutters. More non-sense from the BATF.[This message has been edited by smokey1 (edited 02-07-2002).]

I thought one had to be a "resident" of the state where he purchases a handgun. At least that was the rule several years ago when I was a dealer. Foreigners traveling on business or pleasure, won't have a drivers license or state ID card showing their residence address in that state, thus would be inelegible to make the purchase. Why does this AP article confuse me? It doesn't make sense. Have the rules changed, or is the liberal press putting out misinformation again to influence public thinking?

I bought a bunch of ammo at Dick's Sporting Goods the other day and they didn't ask for anything from my wallet but money. How are they going to know who is a foreigner and who isn't?
