Dell "Range Report"

Finally broke down and bought a new computer this past week. Dell P4 with a 2 gig hz processor and 80 gigs of drive. Got a bunch of goodies with it and the 17" trinitron monitor. I do have to admit, Dell makes one fine comp. I know, for the price I could of had a new SA 1911 Longslide and an AK47 and maybe even another Buckmark, but then I wouldn't be able to come here and partake of all the wisdom that's floating around

Y'all see, computers are alot like cars. Sure, you can go to the local dealer buy a z28 or Gt Mustang that will run good but to take a chassis and build it yourself to run is much much better. Anybody can buy a fast car but not everbody can make it fast. Now computers are alot simpler to build that a car. There is no special tools needed, no machine shops or messy lubes. Just a little book and about 45 minutes of plugging things in. Yep, I can go buy a Dell or any other big brand but just like a factory 'stang, even with the options added, it's still a factory 'stang. This computer may not be the biggest and baddest machine on the block, but when it goofs up there is none of that "dial as geek" crap or sending it back because I'm too stupid to reinstall windows myself. If this thing messes up I can have it going rather quickly with no calls made. It's a heck of alot cheaper too!!Somebody tell me if I am using the right size stirring spoon.

7mm, in theory you are right. The computer I am using now is what you describe. However, I needed to get some expert help with it because so many of the parts I bought were bad that I had trouble narrowing down the problem. Turns out it was a bad motherboard (some Taiwan POS that came highly recommended), bad CPU chip (AMD), and bad hard drive (IBM).
