A Florida International University student was allegedly stabbed by another student Tuesday morning following an argument in a men's bathroom on the West Miami-Dade campus, school officials said.
The victim was identified as Dustin Mangas, 21. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital with a stab wound to his left side. He is listed in serious but stable condition Tuesday afternoon.
The alleged attacker, Luis Mariano Carreno, 18, was quickly arrested by FIU campus police following the 11 a.m. incident. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
School official said the confrontation took place inside a bathroom at the Ernest R. Graham building, the busy student center where the dining hall is located.
The two men had apparently been arguing since last week, school official said.
''We don't know what the disagreement was about, but they ended up having it out in that bathroom,'' said university spokeswoman Maydel Santana-Bravo.
Santana-Bravo said Carreno was arrested shortly after the bloodied Mangas stumbled out of the restroom. Mangas hailed a campus police officer who was standing nearby at a law enforcement table set up to promote seat-belt safety on campus.
"He said, That man stabbed me and the officer quickly apprehended the other student", Santana-Bravo said.
Witnesses said both men had blood on their shirts.
It was unclear what type of weapon was used to stab Mangas.
Unlike public K-12 schools in Miami-Dade where students undergo random weapon searches, FIU students are not subjected to such screenings.

How could that be? The short time that I was a LEO (in FL, btw), a complaint affidavit must accompany the suspect into the jail.
I'm not afraid of the dark...the dark is afraid of me!
They had a segment in the news yesterday saying that drivers in Miami are the most rude of the country...even topping New York. I agree with them 100%. All you have to do is cross the county line and it's like your in a whole new country.
considering im probably one of the few Americans left...I'll be sure to bring the flag with me when it is time to leave.
