I don't think so. What I do think is that we tend see the contrasts a lot sharper today more than in centuries past. Maybe it's the internet, maybe it's tv, we're a much more connected society that we've ever been before. And in every society in every age there have been people who are upstanding and moral and those that live by their own wishes and desires. It has been and shall be.

I see a steady erosion of the family and believe it will cause the eventual decline of our society. Perehaps being a Probation officer for almost 20 years has jaded my view somewhat, but I am concerned about what I have observed over the years.

I think as a general rule most of the population has lost their morals. Just look at the crimes, drug use, murders and everything else as compared to 40 years ago. I believe it's headed downhill from here. Our rights, freedoms and privliges are being slowly taken away. I am from a very rural area and its hard for me to believe some of the things I see happening in the big citys. If my grandparents were able to see whats going on today, they would probably go into shock.

It is a problem with two "R" words that are no longer taught in school, home, on the street, or even in some "churches." These two words are "RESPECT" and "RESPONSIBILITY."

When I was in school I was taught something more complicated than they teach now. What they teach now is "You are an Individual and you may do as you please!" Most all of the students do just that! I learned something very similar but more complicated in some ways. I was taught, "You are an Individual and you can do as you wish anytime and anyplace, so long as it doesn't interfere with or hurt someone else!"

Seems like they need to look at what they are teaching society now and add back the words they dropped because they were in such a hurry! But that might be too simple....!!! Yes, Oh Hell Yes, our Values are much less leaving us all worse off!

Our society parallels that of the Roman empire in many ways. The Romans had a welfare system that was supposed to keep the jobless people from stealing and stop crime. They built great collaseums to keep the jobless people entertained and out of trouble. Our modern day collaseums are the televisions in our homes and instead of sacrificing christians to lions for entertainment we have football, baseball, real tv and the most realistic action movies money can buy.
Did you know that when the Romans first began the collaseums that the entertainment was based on comedy, much the same as television and radio in our country began. The citizens however, became bored with it and demanded different forms of entertainment. They began boxing matches, with giant oversized gloves, so that the entertainers would not be injured, but with time, just as with our telivisions, the entertainment became more and more perverted, more violent and ultimately turned to barbarism. We would hope, that we would be intelligent enouph to learn from others mistakes and not allow history to repeat itself, but then again, when our school systems are more interested in teaching our children about homosexuallity and the evolution of man from monkey and little or nothing about history, morals or ethics we shouldn't expect our children to know any better.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

I have thought about that very question myself. But after I seen Americans come together to help their fellow man even as strangers on Sept 11,2001 my faith was restored.America came together as one,and we admired our massive Military. And Fireman are once again childrens heros. And the construction workers refused to stop searching for survivors, with no regard for themselves.I know Fireman that left their jobs and familys behind,to go help with the search. They didnt help because they were not needed, but they went to do their part as Americans.Look at all the people that gave blood, they had enough donated as to tell people at that time they didnt need any more blood. It still proves when times get rough you can depend on your fellow man.

Yeah, ya gotta watch out for that man from monkey stuff. Next thing you know, they'll be teaching our kids that the world started more than 6,000 years ago, then it's all over but the shouting.
