I need some advise! I have been looking at some semi auto's in 45acp with 5" barrel and can't decide between the springfield 1911/A1 or colt 1991? I prefer stainless steel.

You can't go wrong with either one. I have owned both. The Springfield seems a little tighter, the Colt a little heavier. The 1991 was originally the least expensive of the Colt line and should be priced accordingly. Perhaps $100 cheaper than the Springfield. They both are good, accurate shooters. Mine were both in blued steel [parkerized with the Colt]. I still have the Springfield.[This message has been edited by oneshy (edited 11-21-2001).][This message has been edited by oneshy (edited 11-21-2001).]

I agree with oneshy overall. I also owned both and kept the Colt as it was just a tad more accurate. I would buy the Springfield back if I can talk my buddy out of it...Either will serve you well....

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me a little about adjustable sights? Are they worth it and should I consider them?

I've carried a Colt Commander lightweight for a lot of years and wouldn't trade it for anything. If you're interested in a Commander lightweight at a good price, e-mail me.eneybl1@ix.netcom.comMudge

If you're using it primarily for recreation, they aren't necessary, but a useful addition. The rear sight on these pistols can be adj. slightly by lightly tapping on either side with a brass or wood dowel. Probably far enough to change your strike point 4-5in. left or right. That is probably enough.

I have several 45 Autos if I had to get rid of all of them but one, I would keep the Kimber, You may want to check this gun out because of all of the features it has. It will cost a little more money but it is worth it.....
