Mine charges $20, I would guess that the average would not be over $25.

A pawn shop does it for me for $25.00 plus NICS fee. The Gun Shop I deal with want's $50.00 + 10% cost of gun and $8.00 NICS fee. Guess where I get my guns delivered.

I've seen different pricing around local hardware charges 25, local "dealer" charges nothing (free), my old gunsmith charges 25 OR 5% whichever is more.

The cheapest I have found(and I have shopped around) is $40. One guy charges 60, and several others charge 50.
ATF- I heard one guy in a shop complaining to the owner that he had to pay him $10 for the check. The owner explained it was to cover the cost of calling, plus to cover him for the time he has to spend on the phone.

NICS fees? What about all the people at gun shows who sell 100 guns a day? There's no NICS fees I know of!!

I pay $15 to my local FFL. $20 is the norm in my area.

It varies wildly by state. Some states (Kalifornia) charge an exhorbitant NICS and the transfer is very expensive. Other states (Texas, GA) are much less expensive (and in some cases even free). In GA I typically pay $5 to $10 plus $5 for NICS.

All the shops here, pawn or otherwise, charge $20. But I have found one that if I will buy a couple boxes of ammo when I come in to pick the gun up, he will not charge anything. Guess who I use!

Sounds like somebody is trying to discourage you from buying from anybody but him.

Salzo, you need to get out of philly, everybody around here charges $20. There are Places in H-burg charging $20

Question, at the gun shows do they use cell phones or is there a line at the payphone?

I'm in TX and I pay my FFL $15 for the transfer and no NICS fee. That includes tax.

$30-$50 for a transfer? That's crazy! My Father lives in PA and I sent him a rifle for his birthday last year. The dealer he picked up from charged $15, and no NICS fee, also.

    Evil,
The Expo show charged me $9.00 last time I bought there.
Beavertown pawn dealer told me the same thing a couple of weeks ago, he said they get a bill from the state of Oregon every month for the total number of transfers. Maybe BS,,, I don't know.
There must be a dealer from Oregon on this board somewhere.

P.S. Can you recommend a good smith in the metro area??

A lot of places in my area simply charge $5.00. A few charge $10.00 and a couple charge $25.00 and then ad sales tax to it. At a gun auction last year the auctioneer, who is a FFL, was charging $25.00 for each gun any one person bought that day regardless of how many guns that person bought - I supported the local fire company's food stand that day.

My dealer is a pawnbroker, he recently went from $10 to $20 for transfers (internet or gunshow), free if you buy a gun he has in his inventory.

My most favorite gun store (the only one locally that does not have a sign on the front door advising you to unload your gun) charges nothing, nada. DOJ fees only. And he is glad to help. He also has the most interesting true stories.

We must be lucky here in Missouri. We don't pay a NICS fee, and all the local shops will accept guns in for me from an auction for free. Of course I buy my ammo and accesories from these guys and don't complain about the price. If I order a new gun from a catalog one guy adds $10. That's not bad.

NICS fee is $8 or $10 depends on the store .

    Stanman,
The $9 "state fee" in Oregon is correct..although some dealers will try to nail you for $10 still (old handgun fee). The charge is a pain for non-ffl holders at gunshows, but atleast we dealers get to transfer in about 10 minutes. As for internet transfer charges, I ask $15 base and +/- $10 for attitude :) instore is always free.

In Indiana we have a "shall issue" permit law so thank goodness I don't have to pay extra for a background check. The transfer fee charged here varies widely, but you have to shop around to find the lowest fee, and sometimes there's a downside. The lowest fee I've found is $5, but I would have to drive 30 miles to Decatur, Indiana, and deal with some folks who don't have fulltime business hours; they deal in old guns and collectibles, mostly. Here in Fort Wayne the price is $15 for one guy who works internet auctions from his home, and $20 for another guy who makes match rifles at home, but he won't work with you if you use the Post Office for shipping or if you don't have a carry permit ("too much bother," he said).

One of my stocking dealers wants 5% (good on cheap guns, bad on expensive ones) plus sales tax. Another seems to want a flat $30; no mention of sales tax. It is the worst angle of the unique online gun business, so far. To every bid price I have to mentally add these other costs to come up with the total price of a gun purchase, not to mention having to work with people who are in no great hurry to expedite your receipt of the gun once they receive it for you. I've had to wait days for an appointment, or been told "I can get with you on Saturday" -- that sort of thing. One dealer actually told me he can't guarantee I haven't placed my order with a wholesaler or distributor, so he has a right to collect his profit margin.

If it weren't for the fact that the BATF would probably hassle me for living in residential zoning, I'd get a license myself and hang a shingle to just expedite online auctions and charge a reasonable fee. Since I'm already a registered eBay transaction facilitator, that would be a logical expansion of my Internet capabilities.

I charge $15.00 per firearm. I haven't raised my price in 4 years. I consider it a customer service and it gets quite a few more customers in the door who end up buying ammo, cleaning kits, etc.

Thanks guncounterkid, it's something we don't have to deal with in Washington ,,,, YET!
I guess the bright side to paying the fee to the state is that it makes them rely on firearms sales as a source of much needed revenue. I don't think Oregon is in a position to give up any money right now, so hopefully they will think twice before further restricting the gun shows.
Oh, sorry, I forgot I was talking about government types thinking twice!!

hold on to your hats...in chicago(or actually 30 mi.+/-, as there are no gun stores here. or guns either...ha)it costs anywhere from 50-100+ for ffl transfer. plus a foid card, plus nics check fee. you may gather that i don't have many guns yet....i bought some nagants from a place called "fetlas" in valpo, ind.- went down there to get a mauser- to be informed that they lost their ffl and that they couldn't sell to someone not from boundary state(legally me). i told them i had bought there before. replied "they must be illegal.." thus the loss of ffl. i said,"crazy gun laws blah blah blah"...store manager(who sold the nagants) said," they should've been tougher long ago," forgeting he was the guy who broke the rules in the past- the wacko...

My favorite dealer in this area charges $25.00 but everyone has to realize that he is in business to make a profit. I think they have a right to resent it if you never buy guns from them but want to transfer them all of the time. I went 10 miles out of my way (each direction) Saturday to buy about $30.00 worth of cleaning supplies from him..and I do buy guns from him as well...
