Failed Safeties

I had two used guns come in this week with non functioning passive safeties. The first was a Taurus 1911 with the firing pin safety plunger spring broken. The second was a S&W M&P 9mm with the striker safety not working. Someone had put night sights on that one and that may have caused the problem( the plunger and spring come out the top of the slide under the rear sight). I don't install sights on M&P's so that one is leaving Monday on it's way to Springfield Ma. to let S&W sort it out. By the way, it took maybe five minutes to get a S&W tech on the phone and a pre paid label on the way which I had in 1/2 hour. Taurus as well was quick and easy and is mailing the parts to me FREE.
Be sure to check those guns fellers.[:)]

i have been telling everyone here for years that the series 80/ Schwartz firing pin safeties fail

i have seen several kimbers broken, they utilize the Schwartz safety, and they dont break while in your holster and instantly make your 1911 a paperweight

Hello 1911A1 fan please don't state the series 80 as having a schwartz
    safety
The original swartz safety worked the series 80 is a cobbled up system
to avoid paying a royalty to the original pat. holder
I have 3 original pistols including one PRE WAR 1911 National match
    Thanks Perry Shooter

One of the first things my father taught me about firearm safety was this. A safety is a mechanical device, which can fail. When I taught hunter education for 20 years, I passed this info along to my student. We had a shotgun that would fire, with the safety on. Oakie

I was almost certain this would degenerate into yet another Taurus-bashing circle jerk; glad to see that there are OTHER unreliable/foreign-made/easily-maligned/misunderstood/failure-prone guns in the world.
