FiveseveN KB update

A while back somebody posted about an FNH 5.7 that blew up.
Original GB link: http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=304665&SearchTerms=fiveseven,
An interesting 33-page battle ensued on the fiveseven forums (I read it over the course of a week), with people making veiled threats to FNH's US staff (who were going to be at some gunshow) calling each other names and all kinds of good stuff.
Eventually the thread got locked but since then, FNH has inspected the pistol and determined that the KB was due to excessive pressure in a reloaded cartridge. Not everybody is 100% convinced. Shooter gets a replacement gun, free, even though the owners manual specifically states that reloads void the warranty.
I found it interesting. FNH's letter in which they state their findings is near the bottom of page 33, in case you prefer to skip the soap opera. The photographs of the KB pistol and the shooter's injured hand are graphic and impressive, and are on one of the first few pages of the thread.

People nowadays will do anything they can to avoid personal responsibility for their actions.[xx(][:(!]
If he did double charge, he's a coward and an idiot.

Well, if you read the thread over there, he was initially angry because he wasn't getting any customer service from FNH. He never asked them for a new pistol and he never threatened to sue (didn't rule it out, either). He had asked them to examine the gun and was getting ignored so he popped a hissy fit, got a lot of people riled up, and got better results than he'd ever explicitly asked for.
I thought he was pretty straightforward about the whole thing. He is dubious about the possibility he double-charged the round, but his responses are pretty clear that he is going with FNH's finding of excessive pressure.
And as many (on the FN forum above) have pointed out, FNH never claimed he'd double-charged it....just that a double charge produced results almost identical to his KB. He might have gotten excessive pressure without a 2x charge. A 1.5x charge might have been sufficient.
That's why I included the word "if".[;)][8D]
However, in my experience, people who have suffered some sort of mishap are rarely as cordial and understanding as they present themselves to be after the fact.

Point taken.
Having gone through all 37 pages of that thread, he came of as fairly reasonable throughout.
The trouble is that nobody will ever know if he really double charged that cartridge, or if he charged it with 6 or 6.5 or 7 grains rather than the 5 he was going for. I assume he wouldn't have done it on purpose, so even he probably doesn't know.
And FNH's results and conclusion are convincing enough, but still far from completely stated.
In defense of the poor guy that almost lost his hand, I will say that FN's public relations... oh, how do I put this delicately? FN's public relations skills suck a mile of @$$.
When I inquired about their new FNAR .308 rifle, I asked if it would be available with a traditional comb stock since the pistol grip model they offer looks half-@$$ed and stupid (I neglected to tell them that in my e-mail and instead couched in terms of states with existing AWBs still in effect).
Their response was, and I'm quoting verbatim here:
quote:NO! It will NOT be offered without the pistol grip!
And as much as I like being yelled at - the caps and exclamation points are theirs - I figure I'll strike FN from my list of manufacturers I'll buy from.
They make an excellent product but being treated in a rude manner when dealing with the customer service people sure does leave a bad taste.
FN hasn't made a quality firearm since the FAL.
