Australian Gun Law Update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts...
Fro m: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia
Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from
Down Under.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced
by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed
by
our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than
$500 million dollars.
The first year results are now in:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up
300 percent.
(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the
criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in
armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past
12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is
unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of
the elderly, while the resident is at home.
Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety
has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in
'successfully ridding Australian society of guns.' You won't see this on the
American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly
disseminating this information.
The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of
honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect
only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note Americans, before it's too late!

...now for some good news...yesterday the new south wales parliment(thats a state for you who dont know...sydney is the capitol city) passed new laws that will get rid of the need for a "cooling of period of 28 days" when they want to buy a new gun providing they already have at least one gun!!...also the need to register any firearm built before 1900!!
i know whay you are going to say...but for us it is a big deal!!!...the crap laws introduced here in 1996 are starting to unravel at last...more states will no doubt follow and introduce this law soon...i dont think we will ever get back to the pre 1996 laws, but some of the worst ones will go if we are lucky!!!
you all came from decendants of crime, and you wonder why crime is up when the guns go away.
heck, you guys need to segregate the historicaly released criminals from the historical guards back thru a few centuries of records using your family trees, and reissue guns to the guard families.[8D]

and there arent many who wonder why crime has gone up since the gun bans and other restrictions came in here in `96...it was predicted, it has happened, and the politicians still refuse to debate it...regardless of their party alliance. it is a closed shop...both major parties(ligeral=conservative...labor= the same as your democrats...and it was the conservatives who brought in the gun control laws here) refuse to discuss the topic..if you phone their electoral offices to see your elected member of parliment and they know you want to discuss gun laws they wont give you an appointment..
we are all waiting to see what the new prime minister does...he owns guns and likes shooting. time will tell.
The Aborigines (hope I didn't offend any) have always had to struggle to get their side heard; why not adopt the tactics they used?
