Computer question- XP SP3

I'm on dial-up and the update for my computer is 66MB. This would take forever at my 16kb hookup as my lines are unstable.
I have the entire SP3 on a USB device. It is 544MB in size so obviously contains some updates that are already installed on my system.
Can I just run the SP3 complete and will my computer figure out what it needs and ignore the redundent updates?
I do hope I made this make sense.
Thanks for the help

Smoky

I do not have a direct answer to your question...however I tried to install sp3 on my laptop and it crashed it hard. Needed to have xp reinstalled and some other secondary install thing done by local repair shop.
    Their recommendation ....Wait.
If you are not having problems and are pretty up to date on your updates, wait.
    Good luck.

You want real problems? Get that new virus Microsoft has out, it's called Vista! Vista crashes like Win 95 did, just for the heck of it with no warning and it is compatible with NOTHING!! I got screwed when I bought this new laptop, I thought I could do a hard nuke on the harddrive then install XP Pro, wrong, this stinking thing won't accept XP on it. Vista, yuck puke spit spit!!

Well, Pa Redneck, do you have an opinion on Vista you would like to share?
I don't care for it myself but I am stuck with it on wife's laptop.

I'm NOT a computer expert, but it seems to me that you could just swap HDDs for another one from Geeks.com and run Vista when you have to, and XP when you want to.
Another solution might be to partition the HDD and install XP on the leftover capacity.
BTW; this computer runs fine on Win95/98 because nobody writes viruses for the older models!
