What Awes You?

I hear a lot of people say "Awesome". Mostly it's high school girls or their mothers who want to be hip.

Does everyone understand what awe means?

synonyms: wonder, wonderment, admiration, reverence, respect.

1. inspire with awe: "they were both awed by the vastness of the forest".

Does a pocket telephone or game camera really fill you with fear or wonder?

Hubble photos awe me. Seeing the Aurora Borealis awes me. Watching a live birth, human or animal, awes me. Watching a pod of gray whales swim from 10,000 feet up awes me. Much in nature awes me. It fills me with wonder. I hope it never stops.

    God's bounty, in the smallest square foot of yard you can see a whole world of life going on. It is their world, home of many things and life abounds. The views while flying, seeing beauty from a viewpoint few bother to enjoy. I wonder at the splendor of it all. To the vastness of space with distances I can not fathom, ever.

    Life awes me, I enjoy and appreciate every minute of it.

    There is a new young gal working at the juice bar in the co-op. According to her everything from exact change and up is seemingly awesome. She can't get 2 sentences out without using the word. I told her I don't think it means what she thinks it means. If you know what I mean.[:)]

    I wonder when every little thing is like, Awesome! what is left when something is truly exceptional.

    My generation stuck with neat and cool, so there was some room left at the top for the truly superlative things.

    The very few times when I can get out in boonies on a very clear night and see a black sky filled from horizon to horizon with bright stars. Awed and at the same time, feeling humbled at the thought that there really is a God who created it.

    Crossing the Atlantic, a carrier suspends flight ops midway because there's no bingo fields in case of an emergency.
    Laying on the flight deck at night, the Milky Way can be seen from horizon to horizon. It's like a luminous band stretching across the sky that is never seen from urban environments and only glimpsed from the flat open desert. That was my first awesome moment.

    You ain't seen flat desert skygazing until you lay down in the middle of White Sands Proving Grounds!
