Got quote to convert my home to Geothermal

If you recall I'm looking for a new hvac upgrade. Trying to cover all my bases I went ahead and got a quote to upgrade the entire system to geothermal.

This includes:

Tree trimming in the area the where they would drill.
A vertical system, heating, cooling to the tune of a 4 ton system.
Removal of blown in insulation and replaced with spray foam insulation.
Some system that would heat a pool.- Pool will be installed a few years later when my kids are big enough.

4 ton system requires 4 vertical bores.

In a nutshell the all in cost of the system is $35,000

If this was some type of forever home- I could consider it, but the fact is there is just no break even point in the foreseeable future.

No recoup there, my old instructor at Tech school installed his own ground source heat pump system in his backyard. Not sure how large a loop but he claimed it worked well.

Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!

Re think the spray foam insulation. Check into the horror stories I have heard about that. Be sure whoever does it knows what they are doing.

I have a 14 ton ground source geothermal system heating and cooling approximately 7,000 ft2 of climate controlled ministorage. Best investment I ever made, but I did it at the very beginning and built my business model around it. Total electric building, and worst electric bill was $520 in the middle of a hot summer a few years ago. My cost for electric has gone up considerably over the last 12 years, and, I know it will go up another 20% by 2019. The closing of coal plants and replacement with wind does nothing but drive up the cost of electric. It's the liberal agenda dream. If you plan on having the home 20 years. I say go for it.

If you're going to blow 35K on 4 holes, have them drill one deep hole, and stop when they hit oil!
