NY State scraps COBIS Program

COBIS is the NY State requirement that manufacturers submit a fired casing when shipping a new handgun to a dealer. In turn, the dealer is required to submit the casing to the NY State Police when he sells the gun to a retail purchaser.
I just got this e-mail from my state Senator advising that NOT ONE CRIME HAS BEEN SOLVED BY COBIS and the program is being scrapped. This is great news for NY FFL dealers!
Last year I wrote to advise you that the state senate passed legislation to eliminate COBIS - the Pataki-era handgun"ballistic fingerprinting" program. I voted against starting it in 2000 and I voted to repeal it last year.
COBIS - which costs the state around $1 million per year to administer - has been a waste of tax dollars from the start, and its data haven't led to one arrest in a shooting or murder.
The governor has followed the senate's lead and has slated COBIS for elimination in his just announced budget. This is good news - the product of ten years' worth of gun owners' advocacy and senate majority efforts to cancel a useless and costly program.
As an A+ NRA rated senator, I'll be making sure that anti-gunners don't slip something in the budget to replace it that will be a burden on gun dealers and gun owners like COBIS.

Good for him. Underscores the fact that once you get outside the city, most folks in the state are just as normal as the rest of us....[:D]
That's kind of a scary thought in itself! [:0][;)]

This is GREAT NEWS !!!!!!When will this come into effect ? I haven't heard a word .. Are they setting us up to pass the Micro Stamping laws ??
As a NY State FFL dealer, it would be a good idea to e-mail him through his website and ask about the microstamping. While you're at it, tell him how ridiculous and useless the Assault Weapons Ban is.
Save your breath asking about microprinting. Every manufacturer has said they cannot comply, as the technology doesn't exist. That doesn't mean that the libs won't pass it if they can, they know that it means the end of the US firearms industry. And, that is what they want!

Be sure to also ask his support for HR3594, which denies any funding for the UN gun Grab schemes.
