Some co-workers and I were talking about this the other day. I'm not sure how we got on the subject of it, but we were expressing our likes and dislikes of some holidays. Christmas in particular. If it weren't for the fact that I have a son, I don't think I'd even bother putting up a tree. When I was five I got a snow shovel as a gift from my parents. We had drifts on the house coming up to the bottoms of the windows. That kind of ruined it for me. And, anyone who has experienced the brutality of a hard Wisconsin winter can understand where I'm coming from. [This message has been edited by Brth729 (edited 03-16-2002).]

Xmas does nothing for me really either. Just never got into it and hate the crowds everywhere. BTW, what part of WI? I'm from around Chetek and still spend a lot of time there whenever I can.

I think it has gotten raped by commerce. I still celebrate. I put up a little tree and have dinner with my family. We grew out of the presents thing, but it's still fun to see the kids enjoy. To each his own though!

CHRISTMAS ROCKS,IT LETS ME GET THINGS FOR MY WIFE AND KIDS THA NORMALLY I WOULDNT BUY.I SPEND MONEY AND IT MAKES ME HAPPY THAT THE MONEY I DRIVE MY MOTHERLOVIN * OFF TO MAKE DURING THE YEAR GETS SPENT TO MAKE MY WIFE AND KIDS HAPPY AND I NORMALY GET SOME GUN STUFF AS WELL SO ITS PRETTY NICE.DONT CHARGE CHRISTMAS THOUGH,SO,DEPENDING ON THE YEAR IVE HAD DECIDES HOW EXPENSIVE IT IS.IF I HAD TO PICK ONE HOLIDAY I DIDNT LIKE IT WOULD BE MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY,I THINK IT DIVIDES AMERICANS ON BASIS OF RACE LIKE NO OTHER.SURE HE DID ALOT FOR CIVIL RIGHTS BUT SO DID ALOT OF WHITES LIKE CHARLES PICKERING MOST RECENTLY TRASHED BY THE DEMOCRATS.I THINK DIVERSITY IS OUR GREATEST WEAKNESS NOT OUR STRENGTH.ONLY WHEN WE REALIZE WE ARE ALL AMERICANS AND NOT SOME KIND OF HYPHENATED AMERICAN CAN WE TRULY UNITE

ya know that if you buy through out the year you will be able to buy them more for the same amount of money. ya see, stores jack prices right before thanksgiving and then there "sale prices" are the normal prices if not still higner than you would pay during the entire year. Simple law of demand.songdog

Easter is the coolest because of the peeps. That is the coolest candy in the world. Just add hot sauce or A-1.

Did anyone else when they were a kid have contests to see how many peeps they could stuff in their mouths? Or was I just a strange kid? Hot-sauce or A-1 is truly perverted.Everyone knows they are best with hot Chinese mustard!

Christmas for me is spending time with family and friends. The gifts are ok, but the real treat is getting everyone together and enjoying a good meal.

I'm with gunnut here. Family is what it's all about. Sometimes, we lose track of that in the daily working world. Christmas ties it together, as a fine gift of togetherness.

You guys make it sound like Christmas is right around the corner.By the way, that and Thanksgivin` are the only hollidays I recognize.Oh yeah, since there are so many hollidays already, several years back I decided to declare as hollidays, the 2 days a week when they pick up the trash....we were going through a lot of disposable diapers at the time. .218

NONE of you have expressed any knowledge of what Christmas is or is supposed to be!! I don't think its the most commecialized holiday though when weighing the thing it has become to what it really is!! Easter has to be the most commecialized without knowing what you are supposed to be celebrating!!!

I worked in retail for years (Montgomery Wards)so I learned to hate it.Then my son was born(12-02-83)He had a very hard birth and we didn`t know if he would make it.He came home from the hospital around Dec 20th and I was really in the Christmas spirit.I was a father, my son was going to be o.k. and he was finally home.I helped decorate the house which is something I never cared about, but I was really feeling on top of the world. On Dec 23rd as I was finishing up at Wards for the day I had a phone call from my mother telling me my father was in the hospital having a major heart attack.Instead of celabrating Christmas we planned a funeral. Christmas is not exactly my favorite time of year.

Groundhog DevastationPlease allow me to take the time to apolgize if my original post led you to believe that all I was concerned with was the presents. Having been brought up in a Catholic family, I know what the true celebration of Christmas is. And, I do celebrate it as such. I was merely saying that if it weren't for my son, I wouldn't celebrate it in its' commercial sense.
