I suppose you have your sled ready to go.

Pretty much the whole state is getting ready for a big blizzard. Looks like you will be right in the middle of it. Supposed to start tonight with wind and snow. Wind chill of -30.

I wonder where the state got the snow cats they are pre-positioning along the interstates? Did they buy them or borrow them?

We are just outside the blizzard area with only an advisory, damnit I like a good blizzard!

I've seen several of your posts about breaking sod. Being somewhat of a sod-hugger, it makes me cringe.

But I'm looking at your photographs and the "sod" you're breaking does not look anything like tall-grass, medium-grass, or short-grass prairie. It looks like land that has been planted to something like a CRP mix.

So the short question is: what's the land-use history of the land on which you're breaking sod?

I haven't seen you post much since the winter set in, are you all right with all that flooding? I remember you were glad to see the snow for your sled but that is turning bad up there now isn't it?

    Your reply said it all...

I just want you to know how much I admire you or anyone else that doesn't run to the nearest handout when times get tough. At the same time we all need to remember that there's no disgrace in accepting a hand in friendship. That's what neighbors and friends do for each other.

While the combined efforts of those on this board would probably have little effect on the whole, I have a feeling that it's the offer that counts. You are blessed, indeed, when friends reach out to you with offers of help. Perhaps even more blessed when you have friends to share your troubles with.

Doc, know that thoughts and prayers are with you. Know that folks of all races and creeds have offered their friendship. Know that even those among us who are less fortunate have offered to share what little they have.

By any standard (other than pure greed) that makes you a rich man. And a century from now all the gold in the world won't do any of us the least bit of good, will it?

Enjoy your family and kids. Thank God for them. Appreciate your neighbors and friends of which you seem to have an abundance. Many a man would hold you in envy.

    Keep us posted.

I'm innocent of posting on that other board. My interests lie in scatterguns as far as firearms. Next in line would be pre 1898 antique guns and I do spend a bit of time on another board by that name.

I like tractors and heavy equipment. We have a dozer and hoe... Just purchased a new Kubota L3830 with a loader and frame mounted hoe. Not exactly a 580SK, but a much lighter footprint. Also selling a 15 year old JD 950 that belonged to my late father. It has accumulated almost 450 hours since new, but is a bit too light for our needs. Nice little machine, though. The 4x4 makes it a wonderful utility tractor.

Then there's the computer thing. It's paid the bills here since the mid-60's. I do custom work for a small group of clients. Anything from software support, to networking, to site survey. I make sure their equipment works.

Of course we could get into diesel trucks. We only have two Dodge Cummins in the stable at the moment. Both standard. Neither have ever given any appreciable problems other than the ability to scrub off a rear set of tires.

I almost forgot... Motorcycles! Both sons ride Observed Trials and I have a little Suzuki RF900R that I'd like to head in your direction sometime soon. I'll bring some hills and trees with me. All that flat is depressing[:D]

Just got back from town - mailed the knife to Longhunter and sent off the cartridges to you via UPS; you should expect to see the turd brown truck pullin' into your place within the week.

I know that I said that I was going to send you a .454 Casull and a .280 Rem, but I found a few others I thought you might not have (30-378 Weatherby, an odd example of a .38 Special, a couple of shotshells) and included those as well.

Funny (or sad?) side note - I actually had to inform the gal behind the desk at the UPS drop point about the regulations regarding shipping of live ammo, ie: "Yes, ma'am, it IS okay to send ammo by UPS", "No, ma'am, I CAN'T send it through the US Postal Service", "See this 'ORM-D' with 'small arms ammunition' written under it? That's all that's required, ma'am".

Sheesh, you would think that the employees would know this stuff; what if I hadn't taken the time to learn the rules myself? I'd probably still be standing there watching her scratch her pretty little head!

I have seen you around here for a while and was wondering if you quit coming around.

Just curious, what population do you plant corn out there?

Have you increased it in the last 10 years or so?

I'm hearing rumors of guys pushing 35,000. My guess is the limiting factor is lodging and the Bt varieties allows better stands with less down corn from corn bores. Therefore with improved stands guys are pushing the populations as much as possible. This hurts the stand, but there is still a net gain in bushels from the higher populations.

You asked me a legitimate question on another thread...I feel i have to answer that on a new thread...So here goes

Royal we..Came from when I was watching Real time on HBO...Bill Maher (sp) Was Saying the small towns has no say so as far as to our countries politics That only big city folk have the intelligence to pick our leaders....... So I summed it up as that he was thinking that. the city folk only matter..Hence the ROYAL WE... Little people (little towns) are peasants
