No we don't raise many beans in my part of the state. You have to over to the eastern part before you get into soybean country. We have a lot of corn and hay. We're in the mountains . GHD PS. I plant soybeans on the hunting leases for foodplots. It's amazing how the deer keep them mowed off. They don't bother my corn as long as the beans are there. GHD

Thanks for the reply, GHD! I was curious, since in these parts there are many acres sown to beans; and if the field is close to a groundhog den or two, those rascals will eat large semi-circles of beans surrounding the holes. This of course is ruinous to the crop.

Since you're in the mountains, would you say that the average range of your shots would be somewhat shorter than in flatter, open territory; or do you have just as many 400 and 500 yarders as anyone else? Also, is trajectory altered by firing uphill or downhill; in other words, do you have to hold higher or lower on such shots?

Always enjoy your posts -has your daughter gotten any more kills?

bwa, Our shots will fall in the 100 to 500 yd range. You have to really look for the places to shoot the 800-1000 yard stuff. I built a rifle for a friend last year and he called this week to tell me he had a 1060 yd shot and confirmed kill on a groundhog. I wasn't there but I have no reason to doubt him. The gun is a 700 action originally chambered in 270. I put a Douglas Match barrel on it finished at 28 inches chambered in 6MM Rem. He wanted it so he could shoot VLD's but he has used 87V-Max's almost exclusively. The little guns, 222Mag, 223, 22-250 will do about anything we want them to here. The darn little 17HRM is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. If you read my posts about the accuracy at 200 yards last week(under 1 inch at 200 yards) I have repeated that 2 more times this week with witnesses!! Today I shot 2, 270's, a 30-06 and a 223 that I had worked on and then shot the 17 and the 17 beat all of them hands down!! All be it the other rifles had not been broken in properly and one of the 270's was 8 years old and had NEVER been cleaned!! As far as the daughter goes, she's been visiting Grandma and Grampa in SC this week and I've been in Ohio. She said she wanted a Nikon scope. When she gets back tomorrow the little 17 will be sporting a 4.5-14 Nikon. Extremely clear optics!! I could actully see the holes in the 200 yard target without the spotter!! Monday AM she gets to go to the killing fields again!! GHD
