Ok, what is a songdog? Only two that I know of. One is the coyote, a very musical beast, especially in groups. The other is the hound on the trail. So, what kind of songdog are you?

A few days ago you posted an inquiry about "Bore Butter". I tried to give a link that I thought would be of interest to you but it didn't work. I think I've got it correct now. Give it a look. http://mamaflinter.tripod.com/beginningguidetomuzzleloaders/

Man, i have just been doing rain dances for days to try and get some water here. There are a few ducks here but no where for them to go except the refuge. Oh well, i need to get out your way and go Pheasant hunting. We own some land south of you around Caldwell. Have you been doing any good with anything? Hey, thanks for asking about me, hope to talk to you soon...Wittum

I hunt on about 25k acres aroung howard, kansas. coyotes are thick as well as the bobcats. Killed three bobcats over rifle season while my dad was deer hunting. One was 2 lbs. under the state record. IN October I killed an albino turkey with a bow. I will post a pic aonce i get it back from the taxiderminst.I know that at elk city, there is a lot of public hunting that is full of small feedfields. Full of varmints. Only a 45 minute drive from Ind.Wat is your story?songdog

Well, i am 22 and goto Pitt State. Hunt all over Independence and the whole Elk City area. The family ownes about 1000 acers in the area so that keeps me busy. I shot a nice 8 point sunday, he also had 3 little kickers around the base so if anyone asks he is 11. Havent shot a turkey yet, but i only went out once. We have been chasing this Mountain Lion who is in the area. I think it is a mountain Lion, i have seen it an some of my other hunting buddies have also. Been shooting Coyotes every morning on the way home from deer hunting. Lots of them around. I wish some ducks would move down to the Independence area because i am getting the shakes. Nice to talk to ya, maybe we can plan some sort of an outing sometime. Hollar back at me...Wittum

you know that shooting a mountain lion in kansas is illegal dont you? But i would shoot one if i had the chance. I too have seen three in the past 7 years or so. One of them was black andi knew it was a ML b/c it ran just likje a cat and it cleared a 400 yd field in about 8 seconds. Could not have hit it with a gernade launcher. I also saw one last bow season, it walked 60 yds. from my tree stand. No camera = no proof in the great state of kansas.songdog

When my father was a kid he told me that when he was out at our property that They found blood from a sheep on the top of the sheep house. The edge of the sheep house is about 6 feet off of the ground so it ad to be a ML.Then last year we found ssome tracks that had to have been from a ML on our hillside in the snow, then up at our farm house we found the same track on the top of the house. I would love to shoot one though and prove the state wrong that the do not exist in kansas. But hten i would be in hte slammer with bubba and the * BANDITS.

Hey guys,It does not suprise me to hear you talking about the m/l's in Kansas, we have them here in western Iowa where I live. We have been telling the DNR and media for mounths we were seeing one around here (about 45 miles N E of Omaha). no one wanted to here it. Well some old lady ran one over by Harlan Iowa and killed it, well you could say that "let the cat out of the bag". No they say there may be more and we shoul keep our eyes open! Also, someone caught one on v-camera by Bassett Nebraska. They are out there! Scott

thanks, i can only imagine driving home with that M/L in the back of the truck and getting surrounded by game leo's. If i ever see the thing again, its going down! I'm just a big talker, ill probably do what i did the first time i saw it, look and try and figure out what in the hell it is, then when its gone realize it!

hardtyms- i hope that what you are saying istrue in part, but from what i have heard is that they KDWP does not really want ML's in kansas b/c they believe that they will discourage people from "exploring" the outdoors. I would love to be able to hunt them out of my own back yard some day. One of those ML's would sure do hell to the turkey and deer popuplation though. That may also bethe reason that they are trying to reintroduce them, to lower the deer herd.songdog

pheasant I was on a combine for over a month this last fall harvest and I only saw about 6 of them and they where all roosters this was very odd we used have several turkey, but I have not seen one for about 2 or 3 years now I dont hunt them but you used to see them just driving around or while swathing but not any more. This was hard for me to believe but a guy told me the other day that they released 2 wolves down on the river a while back I dont know why he would lie to me about this any way I know the bobcats are gettin a little thick my way and everyone is complaining I will talk to you guys later Hardtyms

A Marine I work with, also from Kansas, living here in Missouri, told me about a Mountain Lion his wife saw lying in the ditch near the mail box a few months ago. She thought it was a bobcat, but it was too big for one by her description, finally my buddy got a picture of a bobcat and asked if that was what she saw, she said no, he showed her the pic. of the mountain lion, and she said yes, yes thats it! So we have them here in south central MO also.

hardtyms- you know if people are complaining that much about all of the bobcats, maybe we kansans should form a bobcat killing posse and go postal on all of those spotted turkey killers. Also in 1991 my best friends dad shot a wolf in their back yard. It was running with a pack of coyotes. I believe that that wolf was probably a pen raised wolf that someone got tired of raising so they let it go.songdog
