I believe so, i have not seen any info on the billboards though. It has always been the first weekend in january for as long as i can remember. That is always a birthday present from the ol man. TOYS TOYS TOYS. So many to choose from and so little time and MONEY. I do know that NEXT weekend thereis oneat the cessna activity center. It is more of a collectors show i think. I guess i will show up at the collisuem anyway and hope that it is there. I need more toys.songdog

I am from the country outside of Wichita, the big gun Show is This next Weekend have seen several billboards, but nothing in the paper yet. My Intrests are Guns, Knives, Ridding My Motorcycle,& Reading, however demands from work sure take precedence, but in about 4 more years I may get to do what ever I want! I don't hunt anymore just like to go plinking occasionally! I am going to the gun Show Saturday morning but all I can buy is some small Trinkets cause mom has put her foot down about guns for a while. After 31 years of Marriage she has is trying to take Charge HA! The Jan. 5-6 show is the US Weapons Collectors show. I try to attend the Chisholm Trail shows at the Coliseum. Seems they are in February or March having more tables thus more Gun stuff! But hey, any Gun Show is a good Gun Show right.

OK who in Kansas would like to adopt a lost hunter for a couple of days next year? Hunter will furnish own bang bang and $, just needs guidance as to where one may find a deer suitable for the purpose of shooting. May need to be personly shown as to where said deer may be found. Hunter is willing to compenstate anyone who will shelter and give guidance with whatever the kind person needs.

Wittum from southeast Kansas. Isnt there a big Wichita show in march also? Between there and Tulsa i get confused. 7mm Im sure i can give you some guidence down here, Probably not a place to stay though because i goto to school about 1 hour away and i live with my parents when i come home. BUt, there are lots of good hotels in the area. There are so many places to hunt down here im sure we can find you something. The second doe season started today so i think im gonna go out and get some freezer meat. Talk to you guys later...Wittum

One other thing I forgot, Do I have to draw a tag for bucks? How do I go about that. I would really like to go there to hunt next season and I would also like to go to texas to hunt. We have plenty of deer here in PA but they are suffering from overpopulation and inbreeding so the good bucks are hard to find. I also love to archery hunt so if chances would be better in archery let me know. I'm not afraid to stay in a motel, just need help hunting someplace new and the only hunting experiance I have is hunting mountains. Not sure how I would do if I had to learn how to hunt away from here on my own.

.218 Beekeep - I lived at 508 N. Market in a one room apartment right across the street from the old court house when I was 7, went to the Cathedral School just a block over. Went back a few years ago, the house I lived in was gone. My mother, at that time, was going to School for Cosmetologists in the (I think) lst Natl Bank down on Douglas. You're right, hard times just don't describe it. Only lived there for a year.

I'm in N.E. Ks. I don't hunt much anymore. The quail are getting real scarce around here, but I usually see 40-50 turkeys everyday. I don't think thats much of a trade. 7MM, you should hook up with someone from here and try for some of our deer. There are plenty, I don't hunt them with a gun, I just use my pickup.

born in Quinter, went to school in Hillcity and then Hillsboro, lived and worked at Moundridge moved to wisconsin in 1984, boys let me tell ya hunting in KS was a lot better than here in WI, here in WI you can't even lean a firearm on a car, truck, or atv or anything and to put you gun in your truck it must be unloaded and put in a case, that goes for your bow also, it really sucks

gskyhawk,I blew an engine going down Hwy 70 and was marooned in Quinter about 10 years ago! I read about several sights I would have liked to see but with no transport ... ... By the time the car was fixed (2 days later) I couldn't stand it any longer, and left without seeing the natural wonders ... oh well, when I was a kid I lived 2 miles from "Metor Crator" in AZ ... never saw that either ...

Sorry that i have not replied to my own post. The yotes have been calling my name. I did not know that there were this many kans here. Or people that wish they were here. hahahaha. 7mm, I am not real sure about how an out of stater would obtain a deer tag, but i believe that out of staters need to apply through the kdwp by july. They just started a thing last season that all in staters coiuld purchase their tags over the counter at the regional offices for all seasons. songdog

Did anyone attend the gun show? I went and i was upset. Hardly any gun boothes there and most were older military guns. So, i ran up to hutchinson to buy a remington 700 vs 22-250 for yotes topped witha 6.5x20x50mm scope. And i also purchased a colt anaconda in 44 mag SS 8" ported barrel, will recieve in 7 days i hope.i have always wondered about some of these people that attend these gun shows. I hope that they take better hygenial care of their guns than they do themselves. Some of these people have such a bad stintch to them that it makes your stomach turn, can they not smell themselves. All in all a good and expensive day, but the fun will last forever.songdog

Greetings from Liberal,It's so dry out here the yotes are carrying canteens. But there seems to be plenty of them.

Yeah, dry does not even begin to describe it. We have a 30 acre, or should i say had, that is about 6 acres right now. The lake was an old rock quarry that is in the middle of the flint hillsand the only part that has water in it is the area where most of the blasting was done for gravel. All in all i would say that the water level is down 12-15 feet. If these frigid water freezing temperatures keep it up, there will be a lot of dead fish come thawing time.songdog

Which show did you go to the one at the Coliseum? Someone said there was one at the Cessna Activity center as well. It is traditionally a collectors show mostly WWI and II stuff. Where in the Flinthills do you live? I have friends at Hamilton, Anywhere close?

I went to the one at the colisuem. The one at the cessna activity center is this weekend, and like you said it is mostly collectors and ww1 and ww2 stuff. I have a farm in the southern most part of the flint hills near the town of howard and then i know a family up around matfield green that let me hunt coyotes and stuff like that.songdog

I know what you mean if its any thing like it use to be it was dare good hunting in the lake bed , by the way my moms folks lived along the red line, Richards where their last name I think they where about 4 miles west after you got to red line and then I had a uncle that was like 1 or maybe 2 miles east, Simons was their name, some of their kids still live in the area,

gskyhawk, I've not even heard of the "redline" but do believe Quinter is where Castle rock is close to. Did you hear the tallest tower fell? So tell me where is this redline?

Olathe Kansas (suburb of K.C.). We all need to stick together to fend off the gun grabbers.
if they don't want us to have guns for self defense, what do they want us to have?
  • gskyhawkgskyhawk Member Posts: 4,773

the redline is a county gravel road that runs east and west between 283 and 23 about half way bewteen Quinter and Studley it use to be the best one in that area I'm not sure how it got the name redline but thats what everyone knew it by, boy i sure wish my memory was better but its been a long time sense i've been out in that part of the country , oh and no I hadn't heard about the tower going down to bad !!
  • 5db5db Member Posts: 1,621 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well next time I'm out that way I'll have to ask about that redline. Yep Castle Rock was a pure oddity found here in Kansas. I'm glad our kids got to see it before the fall, now we'll have to go back and see what's left. Guess we'll call it a lesson in erosion.

Any of you guys ever shoot your bows at Dick's video range on Kellog in Wichita? I usually make a few trips in there when my wife and I visit our daughter in Augusta.
