Tucson wins ruling on gun-buyer checks for shows

The state Court of Appeals ruled Friday that Tucson can require on-the-spot background checks for prospective gun purchasers at gun shows held at the city's convention center.

The decision by the Court of Appeals' Tucson division overturned a judge's ruling that Tucson could not impose background checks as a condition for gun-show operators to lease the Tucson Convention Center.

Judge Stephen C. Villareal of Pima County Superior Court ruled last year that the requirement was preempted by state law, but the Court of Appeals disagreed.

The Court of Appeals said it could find no clear evidence that the Legislature intended a pre-emption law passed in 2000 to cover situations like Tucson's requirement involving a city-owned facility. http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0531tucsonguns31-ON.html

I wish the promotors would pull out of the TCC because of this crap, but they've made NO such efforts (or threats!)

The TCC is losing money like mad, so maybe that would be an incentive for the city to back off, and shut up, too.

    Idiots, one and all.

The TCC *sucks* to have a show at, anyway.

The shows at the TCC are $8 while the shows at the fairgrounds are only $5-6. With a show just about every month I can handle missing the once ever four months show at the TCC.
