My post yesterday dealt with a 22 long rifle compared to a 22 mag both fired from a Ruger Single Six. One round each was fired into the same telephone book at a distance of approximately 2 feet. The measure was how many pages were penetrated and torn as a result of the bullets' impact. The mag demonstrated more power. A reader suggested the comparison of a 22 long rifle fired from a rifle be compared to a 22 mag from the handgun. Well today, I did just that. Below are the results:22 mag (from the Single Six) - the cover plus 447 pages22 long rifle (from the Single Six) - the cover plus 146 pages22 long rifle (from a Marlin 39A) - the cover plus 333 pagesOther pertinent data: Mag ammo - CCI Long rifle ammo - Federal Both ammos were solid bullets (not hollowpoints) Handgun barrel length - 4-1/2" Unless someone can come up with a better conclusion, it appears the 22 mag fired from a handgun is distinctively more powerful than a 22 long rifle fired from either a handgun or rifle.

Don't worry about the bullet with your name on it, worry about the fragmentation grenade addressed 'To Occupant'.
