"Gun Safety" instruction

Yesterday was marked with resentment from myself and several other members of my office as the boss decided that his recruiters needed some "safety training". We discussed proper driving precautions for Iowa winters as several of the recruiters in my office are from the south. We also discussed defensive driving and the do's and don'ts when using a government vehicle. One of those "don'ts" includes not transporting firearms or ammunition in the vehicle. This is obvious to some because our job often takes us into school parking lots. However, the boss had all firearms owners (6 out of 8) raise their hands. Then he began lecturing us about not having loaded guns in the house and having them all trigger-locked or stored in a safe. I agree with security but he went further to explain that someone breaking into our respective abodes would probably have the advantage and a gun would do no good because it would be too late before we got to it anyways unless we slept with one under our pillows. He then began jumping all over one individual that keeps a loaded shotgun by the door in case of trouble. He then got back to the original point that he made about not transporting arms or ammo in government vehicles because it is against the regulation. This is obvious but he then went further to state that nobody in this part of Iowa needs to be armed anyways because the crime rate is so low. I kept my mouth shut and wondered where any other employer would have the cojones to tell me how to store my arms and ammo in my apartment. I then thought back to the Friday evening last summer when a man was on the loose after murdering one woman, her five kids and his former employer with a knife and a hammer. I had several things to accomplish around town that evening. I will leave you guessing whether or not the .45 rode in my pickup with me until Mr. Moss was captured.

I was listening to a radio talk show program yesterday where the host was advocating that concealed and carry would be OK in OH, IF and only if applicants took an 80-90 hour firearms safety course. Whoa, 80+ hours?! I doubt anyone could come up with that much firearms instruction. I learned to shoot and handle a gun safely in about half an hour at the range.

idsman......Post this idiots phone number and tell him that if I ever need immediate help in regards to an intruder I'm going to give him a call. If he fails to show up in time to prevent anyone of my family from being harmed he'll find a briefcase full of his regulations and opinions stuck up his liberal *.
Politicians, like diapers, should be changed often and for the same reason.

This individual is my station commander. He owns guns but keeps them all locked up in a Sentry safe in the basement. He advocated that I should keep mine locked up in my storage closet outside adjacent my deck which gets wet every time it rains and is subject to the harsh winter climates. I laughed and told him that he could come over every night after work and oil my firearms for me if he wanted me to do that.

Seems everyone wants to stick their noses in someone elses buisness. Everywhere you look (TV Radio Ect.) someone is telling you how to run your own house. I'm tired of all these so called experts and don't listen anymore. I will decide how to store my gun(s) in order to protect my family, I will decide wether it is a good idea to carry in a given situation. I have a rule-- I won't tell you how to run your life, so- DON"T TELL ME STUPID!
