You have used your "right" to purchase your first gun for what ever reason. Be it that you noticed the government or law enforcement agencies cannot protect you as you may have thought in the past, or you just feel better about being safer in your home to protect yourself and family. You, most likely were not active in any organization that helped to fight to maintain this right. You may have even been anti-gun. For whatever reason- you felt the need to buy a gun, and wasn't it nice to have that right. If it weren't for the NRA,GOA,your state rifle assoc. and the many members and their support, you may not have been able to own that piece of security. These organizations have been fighting for years to maintain the 2nd rights, and I would think you owe them a bit of thanks. You can do that by joining one or more of them and supporting their efforts. If not- then be prepared to give that gun back in the future and again leave it up the the feds to protect you and your loved ones! Welcome to the real world! Thanks!

Daddo, I bought my first gun in December of last year. Since then, Joined the NRA, GOA, and NAHC. Bought my first rifle two days ago and am looking forward to the gun show this weekend to pick up a SAR-1. Have been busy on a weekly basis writing to my senators and reps and even the pres on ocasion. I completely agree with you. I come on this board almost every day and see new headlines about the grabbers trying a new gimmick to relieve us of our rights, and it makes me sick. I've even taken the time translate somethings into stupid for some people around the office. If we all do our part, we can ensure that our kids and their kids will be able to enjoy this sport and pass-time as we do today.

Pikeal, you'll be very happy with that SAR. I'd suggest Romanian, I hear they are the best of the variants. I have one and it works perfect.

daddo, you've shamed me into a confession. For many years, I have from time to time shot other peoples guns, but I didn't own one of my own, only an old air rifle that I finally threw away a couple of years ago. Yes, I always said I was for the 2nd Amendment and I tended to factor a candidate's stand on that into my vote, but as far as doing anything about it: zip, zero, nada, nil. That changed on 9/11, when my wife and I woke up to how vulnerable we were, not only to terrorists but to general civil disorder not to mention the regular crop of bad guys. In addition, I learned more about the many forces that are trying their best even now to disarm the public. So I am now a gun owner with a very modest collection and I did join the NRA around the same time as my first purchase. I've learned a lot in the half year since then, partly thanks to the good folk right here. I also joined the GOA today for good measure after being shamed into it by this topic.

Kind of reminds me of my brother. He is pro gun-not because he likes shooting, but because it is a constitutional thing. He has been a member of the NRA for quite some time, but owned no guns. After September 11, went out and bought his first gun-a 12 guage shotgun.

All of our rights are in danger and we must give attention to as many as possible.
