Carpet question....

Mrs Rembrandt and I recently went to four different places looking for new living room carpet....now most carpet comes either in 12' or 15' widths...not wanting any seams we elect to go with the 15', which limits selection, but we find what we want and place an order....$1500 and they want half down. We are told it takes about two weeks.....we are now going on 2+ months and still no carpet. I'm wondering if our order isn't large enough for the manufacturer to set up and weave...or have we been put on the back burner because someone with a larger order got priority? Has anyone had experience in the carpet field before....is this normal?

I've laid a little carpet in my time working for my cousin. I'm assuming you ordered yours in Des Moines. I've never heard of it taking that long -- even in SMALL town Iowa. Hmm...something fishy. Are you doing the job yourself or is someone doing it for you?

It's not the local dealer, but the manufacturer that makes it seems to be the delay....I'm having the local carpet store do the installation. I just wondered if this as a little unusual or normal for a special ordered item?

Who is the manufacturer? My cousin lives up in Sioux County. I'll give him a jingle tomorrow and ask him about it if you can give me the name of the manufacturer.

I'll have to check tommorrow and get back to you...the sales receipt says "Studio Design", but I don't think that's the manufacturer...appreciate the help.

....I am truly amazed, got a call today from the carpet people. Seems the company that manufacture it,(Shaw) is in Georgia and it's being shipped this week, so installation will be done next week. Apparently the material for this particular type of carpet was backordered...first time it's ever taken this long....Thanks Idsman for the assistance.

You guys are very patient about getting your carpets laid. I know that I would have to get laid long before that!

I'm happy to be a source of carpet or linoleum information for anyone that needs it. I haven't laid any since 1997 (carpet).

Just in case anybody wants to know, Sears has gotten out of the carpet business. Too much competition, or not enough bang for their buck.
