Could somebody help me explain to her that when we manly men go to our "shop" and tear things apart we DO know how to put them back together. She is all mad because I got bored and took the lawnmower apart for a spring cleaning and now claims I did it just so I can buy a new one. Tell her it will run again please, she don't believe me!

    Mrs. 7mm:

You see, us men are so good at the type of thing that your husband has undertaken that we don't even need to read the owners manual which contains small minor details specific to that make and model of lawn mower. Instinct guides us and our testosterone is our safeguard from danger and undertaking to great a task.

    No worries.

And all those extra parts weren't really necessary, anyway.

You better load it into the Back of the truck and take it to the mower repair man while you send her on a shopping spree. While you are at the shop put a bunch of grease on your hands, arms, and face so she will think that you made the repairs. After all if you have him make it a top priority and do it while you wait he will probably only charge you about $60.00 bucks per hour. The other option would be to sell it in the next garage sale and then hire some young person to mow your yard and then you could spend more time bonding with the fine piece of Machinery that fires those .223 bullets.....

7mm, it wasn't running properly, you're attempting to fix it to save money and if you succeed you're a hero. Odds are you will. If you don't, hey, you tried. Of course, the best way to deal with it is to let the lawn grow a while & buy a sheep, so you can trim your grass and eat it, too.

Tell her it wasn't working quite right and you were trying to save money by fixing it yourself. If she questions it just look suprised and hurt.

*Women you can't live with them and you can't live with them????*

Isn't there supposed to be an "out" in there somewhere? Ah well time to go fix the washer.

Our family has a summer cottage on Lake Erie. The lawnmower there was a 1964 Craftsman. After years of faithful and less than faithful service, I was changing the spark plug one day and it stripped the threads off of the engine head, even though it was the proper size plug. The threads just flaked off the head. Looking on the Sears websight, the part is still available. Even though we had another mower to replace the broken one with, I insisted on sticking the busted one in my mom's basement to rip apart and fix (someday). Boy she threw a fit! She said if I wanted the damn thing so much I could use it as a coffe table in my apartment. Long story short, it is still in the basement after three years.

Of course timing plays a part. You had all winter to refurbish that mower and now that the grass is looking long and scruffy you've decided to take it apart before the first mow. Oops, let the cat out of the bag. See, we men like projects, but we like to schedule them when we're in the mood. It's tough to mow when you're in the mood to recondition first. You know it'll run better this season if you do...

Oh well, tell her the ground is too muddy from all the moisture not to make ruts in the lawn anyway. If you live around here, it's the truth.

If you couldve seen her face when she came into my "shop" and saw this you would laugh. The engine was tight after sitting all winter so I tore it down, polished the crank with some emory cloth and honed the cylinder. soaked the carb and gas tank to get all the gunk out of it, put it back together and guess what, IT RUNS!! So my wife can just go...................................
