Auto Ordnance "Pit Bull"

My biggest attraction to the Auto Ord product -- other than the obvious Tommy gun line -- was their version of the government model called the Pit Bull (see image below). You can see, it kinda looks mean because of that jutting chin where the spring housing sticks out farther than the barrel at the muzzle. Unfortunately, in those days, the company's output had a reputation for roughness that couldn't be overlooked. Now that they've been bought out, the quality apparently has gone up, and I have wondered whether they're still making, or are planning to revive, this unique gun. (At the time, I bought my first Star PD instead.) I think they'd sell a few of these, with the right updates. Of course, the name isn't very politically correct anymore, but it fit the gun's look perfectly.

    E. Williams --
You were told right back then -- at that time, they were just too rough. But I, like you, hope they've been revamped.

Hey, if y'all want a compact 1911 style .45 ACP, check out the Para Ordnance LDA line.

I have the Para Carry C645. It looks a lot like this little Bull Dog. It has a 3 inch barrel and weighs in at 30 oz. (any lighter and it wouldn't be shootable in .45)

It has Para Ordnance's proprietary LDA trigger system which is a VERY light double action. This is great for those of us who love the 1911 but don't want to carry cocked and locked.

I've had mine for a few weeks now and love it. After another 500 hundred rounds without a misfeed or problem, I plan to elevate it to my primary carry weapon.

I saw a thread not too long ago from you EWilliams where you were looking for a good .45 carry piece. I couldn't respond before it got locked out, but the Para Ordnance C645 would fit your requirements perfectly (as long as you don't mind dropping the $700 or so bucks for one!)

Just my 2 cents worth. That Bull Dog does look pretty cool, though!

I had my eye on a C7 lda with the 3.5"brl but the cheapest I could find one was $899.00.Nice gun but a little too rich for my blood anytime soon.

Here is a C7 for $725, but I think that is still a little high.

I got my C6 from St Nicholas Gun out of Florida. It was $699 + $30 shipping + $10 transfer fee from my FFL. Not bad since everyone else had it for $750 and up before shipping.

I would give you the web address for St Nickolas Gun, but I'm afraid it would get poofed from this site. You can find them (or others) in a search.

The difference between then and now is that I might buy an older Auto Ord now at a value price and have the confidence to work on it myself. I'm always surprised at what a little judicious oiling and light sanding can do to improve the reliability and performance of some semi-autos. I think I could make a winner out of one of these pre-Kahr guns now, though they were plain-Jane 1911s in any case. I read a review of a Kahr "1911A1" full size and it wasn't bad, though Kahr somehow made the strange decision to leave the feed ramp parkerized. I would think it begs for a bright smooth polish. In any case, I hope they bring back the Pit Bull, but if not I'm going to keep an eye on the gun shows for an oldie but goodie as a project. i've always had an eye for the slightly off beat.
