How many officers have been shot with AP ammo

Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: And he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one

Craig is sorting Ted out now. He's explaining that "cop killer" bullets are already against the law and have always been commonly thought to be PISTOL ammo, so Ted is making a ham-handed attempt to expand the definition. Craig is saying that clearly there is rifle ammo with armor piercing capability but crooks don't often like to attract attention by carrying a .30-06 down the street [:D]. Funny stuff. Craig also read a letter from the 311,000 members of the FOP dumping on Ted's "cop killer" amendment. Ted is back up now screeching again with his own statistics. I don't see how a ban on rifle ammo can pass. It would include nearly everything above pistol cartridges.

Craig is going to offer his own amendment to increase punishment for anyone who would use "armor piercing" ammo on an LEO to counter this foolishness. Pretty soon the penalties are going to be so steep based on all this deflection that crooks won't have the Dems to give them a "get out of jail free and go into treatment" card any more.

It was reported during the Clinton administration that "Officer Doffyn " was killed with an AP bullet, however it was a shot to the head and another through an opening in the Vest, the shot did not defeat the VEST.

The NRA was behind the ban on AP bullets, another of their "Help for the gun owner" policies.

quote:** The "existing laws" were adopted in 1986 and prohibit the manufacture and importation, for private use, of handgun bullets made of special, hard metals and (in a 1994 amendment) specially-jacketed lead bullets. These bullets were invented for use by law enforcement and military personnel. NRA helped draft the 1986 provisions and didn`t object to the 1994 amendment. (;18 U.S.C. 922(a)(7) and (8), and (b)(5), and 921(a)(17)(B) and (C))

Way to go NRA. Keep helping the gun owners this way, and we wont have anything when your done, yea yea I know ya gotta do this stuff so you will still be able to suck your living out of the members..

Ted Kennedy is now claiming that he has been misunderstood and read a scary phrase from his amendment -- he wants to ban "ammunition more likely, in the opinion of the Attorney General, to penetrate armor than standard ammunition of the same caliber." Yes, he said caliber, not cartridge. So the .50AE might be okay, but the entire range of ammo for the .500 Magnum might be banned.
