Fixed Dad's "Blast/Lovesan" worm today

I went over to Dad's and fixed his Dell today. I notice that some "methods" leave out a key step, which is that after you delete the worm, you must go into your Internet Options, selection your default Internet connection's Settings, click the Advanced tab, and TURN ON Windows' own Internet Firewall by clicking the box.

If you don't do that, and you don't already have the patch handy, the worm will come back before you have time to download it on a 56k modem.

So the proper list of steps is as follows:

1. Delete the virus using a utility, like that from BitDefender.com.
2. Turn on XP's Internet Connection Firewall.
3. THEN you have sufficient time to download the 1.6 meg patch provided on Microsoft's TechNet site. The 32-bit patch is the one for "most XP users."

You can delete the worm all day but you'll never have time to download the patch before the worm comes back unless you turn on your Windows Internet Firewall first....
