messenger service

you can turn it off

about two weeks ago I started getting messages from jenny and a half dozen others every couple of minuets,it finaly annoied me enough too find out how to stop it.




Right-click My Computer and click Manage.
Click Services and Applications.
Click Services.
Scroll down to Messenger and right-click the entry.
Stop the Service.
Choose Disable as the Startup Type.
Click OK.

    It nearly drove me crazy until I found out how to turn it off. Took this dummy about three times trying but finally got it off.

    nitrouz, you don't have to do it everytime you restart... If you disable it then it won't come back. You are probably just bringing it up and using the "stop" button to stop the service, if so, you need to change the startup type to disabled and you'll be set. If that still doesn't do it you might need to do some manual registry editing to get it to keep it off.

    You can also stop all incoming messages on that service by turning on the Windows Internet Firewall feature in XP. Highlight your Internet Connection icon, choose its advanced settings, and click the box for the firewall. No more ads for free diplomas...
