Speaking of the post-WWII 50s mentality ....

A lot of the post-war stereotypes lingered long into the 50s. I remember on Saturday morning kiddie cartoon shows, regularly seeing a cartoon in which a very unflattering caricature of a monkey with all the traits of a Japanese bomber pilot trying to hold his bomber together with his tail, arms and legs, while it was being shot apart by "the good guys." It took a while for someone to identify this old politically incorrect cartoon, but it now appears, under it's title, CAP'N CUB, on a collection of WWII "propaganda" cartoons. But like I said, propaganda, racism, or whatever, this was still considered family fare for kids in the 50s. The oriental monkey is on the left-hand side of the image included with this post.

Not much different than the mentality today

Back then if they had slant eyes, they were suspect

Now if they wear a towel on their head, their suspect.

    No difference

    POLITICALLY INCORRECT??????

I would disagree, there is nothing 'politically incorrect' about wartime propaganda which de-humanizes the enemy.

And before someone shouts 'racism', the nazi's were equally demonized
    and de-humanized.

Shootist -- I hate the term politically incorrect. I used it because it applies to the situation in some minds, not because I believe in it. I'm with you on that 100%. That's what propaganda is for. It is surprising that it made its way into kiddie cartoons of the era, maybe, but that's all. All the favorite family cartoon characters took their turns at propaganda back then.

As for the fact that we dehumanize the "ragheads," or is the "towelheads," or the "camel jockeys" today, the more things change, the more they remain the same. Those who are terrorists or finance, aid or abet terrorists, don't need any help from us being dehumanized anyway. They do a fine job on their own, and are seemingly proud of it. So let it be written, so let it be done.
