What's Still Legal in KA?

I got to thinking after looking at pictures of those nice post-ban Rock River Arms M4s, how successful have the manufacturers been in modifying their guns to be available in L.A. County? Can anybody tell me, of the "assault weapon" type guns, what is still legal to own? I hear the M1 Carbine may still be legal, for example. If I were to walk into a gun shop, what of the Minis and black rifles and so on could I still buy there? Anybody care to tackle this one?

Hmmm. I'll tackle it. Can still buy m1's here as well as mini's. Can't legally buy or accept any mags for them with a capacity greater then 10 rounds. Can't buy an AK or an AR in this state. Cant buy anything that's class 3. Not sure if they are on the market yet or not but did see an AR being shown around with a fixed 10 round magazine at the last gun show. Wasn't really interested in it so I didn't ask any questions about it.
Do have a question myself as i'm still confused to the law. I understand if someone had a legally registered AR or AK in Cal. that they couldn't even leave it in their will to a child of theirs if they were also Cal. residents. Anybody know?

No one who doesn't already legally have one can obtain one. They cannot be transferred so the estate would have to sell them. The question would be, what would their legal statis be from the time of death to sale, since the executor of the estate would not have the immediate right to sell them until he recieved the "letters testamentary"? There is no problem transferring them to a person out of state as long as the proper inter-state transfer procedures
    are followed.

What did they do about the stuff that was originally grandfathered in when the law took effect?

And I assume that means no one moving to the state may bring their property with them if it runs afoul of the ban list? (Like my Norinco type 56S).

And that brings up one more point -- May one still own pre-ban hi-cap mags? If I were to come to the state I'd be bringing a half dozen or more handguns along, some of which have a plethora of mags. Then there's that bag of 20, 30 and 40 round AR mags....

JUST CAME BACK FROM CALIFORNIA IN LATE JUNE. I HAD THE SAME QUESTIONS.
SPOKE TO A GUNSHOP OWNER IN OCEANSIDE CA, NEXT TO CAMP PENDELETON USMC.
SHE TOLD ME THAT NOT AK'S OR AR15'S ALLOWED TO BE SOLD TO THE PUBLIC,PERIOD!!!.
ANY GRANDFATHERED AK'S OR AR15'S AS WELL AS HI CAP MAGS HAVE TO BE REGISTED WITH THE CALIF DOJ.
UPON THE DEATH OF THE OWNER, THE GUNS & MAGS ARE TO BE DESTROYED!!!, BY TURNING THEM IN TO THE CALIF DOJ
THE AK'S,AR'S & HI CAP MAGS REGISTERED IN CALIF, CAN NOT BE TRANSFERRED OUT OF THE STATE OF CALIF.
THE STATE OF CALIF. HAS CREATED A SHORT "LIST OF AUTHORIZED GUNS" THAT
CAN BE KEPT & SOLD. THE SHORT LIST DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY OF THE "GOOD BLACK RIFLES"..
ALSO SEN. FIENSTEIN, & SEN. BARBARA BOXER HAVE PUSHED A BILL THROUGH THAT REQUIRES THAT ALL GUNS TRANSFERS INTO OR OUT OF CALIF. HAVE TO BE APPROVED BY THE CALIF. DOJ, PRIOR TO THE TRANSFER GOING TO THE GUN DEALER.
ALSO WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE PUSHING FOR MAGS TO HAVE A MAX OF 5 ROUNDS!, SO MUCH FOR THE 10 ROUNDERS.

AGAIN THIS WAS WHAT I WAS TOLD!, TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

5 rounds is just enough for a small frame big bore like a Charter .44 Special or .357 ported Pug, or a shotgun, or a Mini-14/30. Guess they'll just have to buy better fight stoppers than the 9mm if they go to 5 maximum. Luckily, I already have a 5-rounder for my cherished M1 Carbine, but how ridiculous the whole business is. They thought they had a black market in marijuana. Wait until 5-round mags go into effect. Do they think that would have prevented the two guys in North Hollywood? Can you imagine the cops running down the street to B&B to borrow those ARs to even the odds with these bank robbers and being told, "okay, here's six ARs, but we've only got 5 round mags in stock."

Ah yes, the Great Repugnant of Kalifornication! Why would anybody want to live there, move there, be there, or even die there? Looks to me like if they require suddenly your valuable property which is part of your estate needs to be compensated for if they take it. What is this sh*t about giving the weapons to the Department of Justice? Some SOB there will just take them home and ....... Yep, yep, and yep!

Please join me in a prayer that it may break off and float away!

I was just thinking, the Thunder Five might actually be a viable handgun under California limitations. They probably sell well there -- or they will, with a 5-round limit. They are just beggin' for a Supreme Court case. Perhaps they're worried by the number of rich Arabians they've got living there, painting strange things on the lawn statuary...
