Let me get this strait.
A scope that is manufactured in Asia or Europe. Shipped to the USA. Sold, then can't be exported as a result of military technology. Seems rather useless.

I was hoping someone could educate me concerning any potential problems/liabilities of shipping antique firearms to an overseas buyer. My first instinct tells me there might be laws/rules involved, but I am not sure. Any input would be appreciated. My apologies if I missed this topic in a previous thread. Thanks, Silverado.

There is nothing to shipping things overseas. Canada is a cinch and just as cheap as shipping to the USA. I know from being an EBAY vendor.
You Americans have to learn that the world does not end at your border.

Vendors who won't ship internationally (except firearms etc) are LAZY.

As a seller I can choose to sell to whomever I want... I am not in the business of selling, and don't want to get into trouble selling something that is prohibited somewhere else (there are a whole lot of restrictions elsewhere besides just firearms). That certianly doesn't make me lazy, it makes me cautious... I don't need any additional worries just to make a few bucks. Deecee, you should be glad, that's just an untapped market for you. [}:)]
geez!
Bought from a good number of countries too. Currency is no big deal, most send cash. Sometimes I send cash (dollars or Euros) or international postal money orders.
Make a friend and sometimes what's uncommon here is falling out of the trees there.
Once you do your first customs form, the rest is cake. I have had more problems stateside than with foreign sales (lost items).

Who do you use for a customs broker? We have found most brokers will charge $80.00+ for shipments into CA, unless it sent USPS with their restrictions on package weight and dimensions.
I also have a few Canadian customers who would like a cut rate brokerage also.

Sending stuff from the US to Canada involves writing the persons name on the package with Canada after the address and attaching a free little green sticker that USPS gives you.
On arrival at the Canadian customers residence, Canada Post will collect a value of about 15% which is about the sales tax here and a $5 fee which reperesents their fee for collecting the sales tax. Canadian customer pays for it.
I have been involved in over 300 transactions on Ebay and as someone said, foreigners flock to me beacuse so many of my American friends think the world ends at their border
This is great if you have a 1 or 2 lb package, if it has any weight at all, it will take 4-6 weeks via USPS parcel post, I just quoted a customer in Ireland today for a 23 lb package parcel post (4-6 weeks) was $35.95. Air post (4-10 days) was $74.95,
Canada Would have been $24.40/$36.55 I have shipped to a lot of countries, it is usually the buyer who backs out of the purchase when they find out how much shipping costs. (Try shipping a 600 lb machine to Canada sometime)
BTW,
I work for a catalog house, we ship 100+ parcels from our location daily.

Once I bought a gun vault at BassPro. They said it would be horrendous to ship it to Canada. It only cost $15 (YES $14.99) to send it via truck (Roadway) to the Roadway Terminal in Buffalo NY. Again, I drove the 50 miles to pick it up.
Ninety % of the population of Canada lives within 100 miles of the border.
You are right gizmo. Shipping does cost but it is not difficult.
Ignore all that 4-6 weeks stuff at the USPS website about ground service to Canada. It never takes more than a week, in either direction.
