I hope everyone has had a Merry Christmas . I've poked my head in a couple times but haven't felt like posting much.
Abby had a wonderful Christmas; unfortunately I missed some good photo opportunities, as my heart just wasn't in it.
My wife was raised in a small Nebraska town about 700 miles away . because of the 10+ hour trip we rotate Christmas between our two families, this year was her families turn and although my fathers health has been slipping for the last couple years we made the trip .
To make a long story short, when I called my folks Christmas morning Mom said she has had to call a neighbor to come over and help her with Dad a few times over the last couple days, his legs would go out and he couldn't get up, and she didn't have enough strength to help him, but once up he was ok. This hasn't been a problem before; he would stumble occasionally but if he tripped he has always been able to get up on his own. The next morning Mom called again . Dad had fallen out of bed Christmas night and couldn't get up . she called a neighbor for help again and this time they decided to take him to the hospital . they admitted him, put him in ICU for dehydration, toxic levels of prescription medications (because of a lack of fluids and inactivity caused the toxic build-up of medications) and a lung infection which has since gone into pneumonia.
Needless to say, we cut our trip short and headed back to Kansas within a couple hours. Upon talking with his doctor I've found he hasn't been co-operating with the doctors orders very well . sleeping excessively, not using his oxygen except when "he" thinks he needs it, not eating well or taking his medications at prescribed times. Although he is only 73, his health is such that he will never really recover . 40+ years of smoking resulted in emphysema . even though he quit 15 or so years ago, its still the biggest obstacle as he doesn't want to be "one of those people pulling an oxygen bottle around". Over the last few months he has spoken of his passing, that he knows he won't get any better and is ready, that he has had a good life and his children have made him proud . in essence, he has just given up.
I've been struggling with this for a while and have finally reconciled myself that he probably wont be around much longer. If you could offer a prayer for his passage to be painless it would be appreciated.

If you really desire something, you'll find a way ?

Oh my God! is the beginning of a prayer, not a one liner!
We come into this life with nothing, everything after this is our treasure
Prayers all the way around. For you, him, mom, and everyone. Remind him Abby needs as much time as she can get with her grandfather.
God Bless,
Danny
How you doin'!
God Bless him, you and the family. Abby is adorable!!!

Ted Kennedy's breath has killed more people than my car.
Am very sorry to hear of the situation, but, as JC has said let him know how much you love him and just make him comfortable and let him know its' alright to "go".
I remember my brothers time 10 yrs ago. The biggest thing was to be told it was alright to "go" and leave everyone else behind. Your permission may be just as important.
He will be in our prayers as will you and your remaining family.
In Christ.

Would ya do me a favor and give Abby a great big daddy hug?
Tell her ya love her and how precious she is to you?
Even though my daughters are in their (sometimes) defiant teens, those hugs still make my day([:)]) and lessen the depression that I sometimes feel.
I hope it works for you also,,and again, my prayers for your Father!
