Unfortunately it was with my Plymouth Grand Voyager. Just coming back from Bartlesville when this big fat buck bounded out in front of me. Caved in my entire front end. I was lucky because he was bounding he came over my bumber and into my grill, if I had been a little farther back he would have been in the windshield. As it is he took out the grill, radiator, radiator core support hood , passenger side fender and headlight. Not to mention several good years taken off my life . Won't know the real extent of damage until daylight. But I'm afraid it'll be several thousand.

Sorry to hear about your van...Glad to hear you were not hurt. It is that time of year already. I have been seeing more deer daily which means it will soon be time to dodge them every night on my way home....

I'm pretty shaken up but the deer had his entire day ruined. I worked nights for 15 years driving over all kinds of roads and this is the first time I've hit a deer. Iv'e come close to hitting one several times and I've hit every other kind of critter imaginable (Even an Emu),usually in a much bigger vehicle. It's scary the amount of damage a deer can do.

I'm sorry to hear about your mishap. I hit a young fawn this spring on my way home from an Iowa Sportsmen's Federation banquet. I was driving about 60 mph and saw the glowing eyes of this young feller looking at me from the weeds along the side of the road. I was aware of my surroundings and knew that there wasn't a car in sight so I made a controlled swerve towards the left lane. The little feller dove towards me and caught his nose against the front of my running board, flipped around and slammed into my rear right tire. I ended up with a tiny little dent in my chrome wheel well molding and a tiny dent in my running board. I'm not going to spend the money to fix or replace either but I felt aweful about hitting such a young thing. I sure am glad it wasn't his daddy or my little pickup would have been in for a world of hurt.

I had to slow down twice today to keep from hitting deer, but that is the usual.Just wondering if your insurance co. will cover the damage? Good thing you were not hurt.

I have worked nights for 43 years. The last 20 have been hard on pickups. I've hit a large doe, a large nice buck and a fat shetland pony. All were at night, all were between 55-60 mph and the damage sounded about the same as yours. I can't count the near misses. If I can make it until spring, I'm going to retire. Maybe I'll take up deer hunting with a gun. It's really depressing to look at all the damage in the daylight, but you have to be happy you weren't hurt. There have been a couple of fatalaties around here the last year.

Don't swerve,,,keep your vehicle in a straight line and slow down if possible. When you try to "out maneuver" the deer ,,you have a pretty good chance of ROLLING your vehicle!! This happens all the time out on the interstate. The lights blind the deer, then in the next few miliseconds ,before impact, the deer move to the only place where they CAN see. In front of your vehicle.

    "Just my opinion."

    gotta tell this story.
a couple years ago my uncle was driving a country road & ran over a pig (he says 400-500 lbs.)
pig rolled under car, car rolls & is totaled.
pig gets up & runs off squealing.
unk bill swears this is true.

I hit an 8 pointer on the way home from the car dealership once. That sucked to the tune of $4700.

Deer cannot comprehend headlights or 65 mph cars. It is impossible to dodge deer because by the time you zig the deer will have zigged, zagged, and zigged again. Deer will react to the horn honking and I have had good results with quick, repeated blasts of the horn. Keep straight in your lane, slow down, and hit that horn. If the deer winds up jumping into your bumper, throw his * in the trunk and take him home and eat him, if he isn't busted up too badly, but probably he is beaten up pretty bad. As a paramedic I saw hundreds of deer vs car wrecks and I never saw a person injured by a deer-car crash. But, I saw some people hurt badly by swerving to avoid the deer and hitting the oak tree. Also, your insurance will cover you if you hit the deer. They want to see some deer fur or blood on your car. If no Bambi blood on your bumper, your insurance will be very unhappy and will treat it as if you simply lost control.

I totaled my car about 3 years ago on a stupid doe,at least it could have been a nice buck.Glad you did not get hurt.I had comprehensive insurance and it payed me the value of the car and did not cause my insurance to increase, but I had rather had my car back.
