"WIND TALKERS" Saw The Movie Last Night

Anyone else see this movie, yet? Well my two cents about is that it was better than "Pearl Harbor", had a few really good dramatic scenes, a fair battle scene at the start, full of pudgy looking Marines, was not aware of the WWII .45 1911 having hi-cap mags (wow, they killed a lot of Japs without reloading), I really appreciated the Gunny giving his men and movie's audience a history lesson and the Pacific War strategy before they went on the first mission, did not know that the B-29 SuperFortress was fully operational and flying in combat in 1943, a lot of unrealistic special effects (great for the bubble gum crowd), too much PC throughout, etc., etc. But overall, I found it to be entertaining and didn't feel compelled to ask for a refund as with "Pearl Harbor". A lot of WWII Vets that were in the lobby afterwards really gave it low marks and did a lot of grumbeling during the film. What did you guys think?

Pack slow, fall stable, pull high, hit dead center.

As usual, Hollywood took a little known historical fact (WWII Navajo Code Talkers) and built a hokey drama around it.

If you'd like to learn about the REAL thing, take a look at this: http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq61-2.htm

BTW....the B-29's first operational combat was on June 5th, 1944....a 100 plane raid on Bankok, Thailand from bases in China. 80 reached the target (20 turned back with various mechanical problems)and bombed with indifferent results.

The move Pearl Harbor was a love story with bits of truth fed to it's viewers, like a baby eating soft carrots. I wanted to see what they went through and feel what they felt. I was irritated that I was sitting in a theater watching a hollywood version of footsie. lets hit the nail on the head with the portrail or , should I say betrayl of the men who realy did all the fighting and bravery and dieing like Dori Miller. Why did the directors defame the men by making a gushy story when there were great stories right there in thier faces! I was hopeing for a real look at the effort and sacrifice and work that occoured from the men for our way of life and the hope that they would be the force to stop the afront on our nation. Now what we seem to have, is just another story that was made "sweet" to "entertain" and not tell of truth, or the reality of the fighters and warriors. disappiontment? yet again hollywood thought they knew what the masses wanted I guess they didnt ask , they didnt think what is truth just what could make money.

If you have Affleck, you have tapioca, the vanilla kind.

If you are looking for history, do not look to the movies, for crap sake. Think!!!!

Read a few books on the subject to get a well-rounded view and then still be suspicious.

    Or you can ask bullzeye.

Even the critics didn't like Wind Talkers. I don't like Nicolas Cage. Go see Black Hawk Down. Best war flick ever made!

Agree with above concerning Black Hawk Down. Saw it opening weekend, like the next night the History Channel ran a documentary on the true events. Could not believe the simularities between the movie and the documentary.
