So ive heard that this is probably the most superior varmint rifle available today. Do they make this gun in a semi? What is the best manufacturer out there for this rifle? And maybe some prices if at all possible.

Let me go on record as a 25-06 nut for varmits and deer (as many on the board know !). Your post will probably start another squabble among those who think other calibers are better suited for varmits, but I won't go there. As to a semi in 25-06, Browning has the BAR chambered in 25-06, but for precision shooting (as in long range warmit shooting) stick with the bolt action.

Jastr,I have shot Texas white tail with about every caliber you can dream up.Nothing drops them like a 25/06.I prefer a 22/250 or .243 for my varmit work.

You know my father in law is a gun nut such as myself, the man probably know just as much about guns as anyone on here. I could sit there and talk too him about guns for hours. The man served in the korean war and helped design the hawk missile systms still used today, but he happens too be one of those narrow minded folks that we sometimes find around here that thinks you need a .416 rigby too kill a rabbit. and at least a .500 nitro too kill a deer. (just a little exageration on my part) but he thinks anything less that a .30 cal is worthless on anything but varmint. swears by his m-14 till the day he dies( i dont blame him on that one) When I brought up the Question about the 25-06 on deer... He said stick with your 308. The 25-06 is a varmint rifle.

Go get you a 25-06 in any one of many quality bolt actions offered.(I prefer the 700's) but Ruger, Savage or Winchester makes them too. Then take the old man out and show him what he's been missing by not using one of the greatest calibers ever devised!!! GHD

Use a good bolt action with at least a 24" barrel in the 25-06 and any good bullet from 100 to 120 grains, and kill any deer you might encounter. Best handloads will probably be with 4350, 4831, maybe RL-22, or Norma MRP. The Remington 700 has the easiest trigger to adjust to lighter than factory pull. Ruger 77's come with their own rings, which saves a little money, but you may not like the trigger. Winchester M70's are good, but you have to work at getting the trigger down to 3 lbs. And the old ugly Savage will probably surprise you with how good it shoots, but the trigger is a problem on them also. I'd probably go with a new Remington 700 stainless, synthetic, you can carry it in the truck all year and not worry about rust.
For factory ammo, try Federal Premium with 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets. My two cents worth, Good luck on whatever you decide.

Definitely have to get me a 25-06.

Have never owned a Savage, but in reading various posts sounds like they must be a better rifle than I thought. Would you say they compare to a Remington ADL/BDL or Winchester model 70?

    Any advice appreciated.

Airborne, the Savages are built more as ulitarian guns, although they do make some fancier models. I do not care for the synthetic stocks they use, and that barrel lock nut always looks ugly to me. But most of them I have been around are pretty accurate. For as cheap as they are it is amazing to me. Bob Grennleaf who helped design them had an article in Precision Shooting some time back that explained how they were designed for economy of manufacture and it turned out that these money saving methods actually enhanced the accuracy potential. The trigger is the main drawback to me, I generally replace them with a Sharpshooter which you can adjust down to 2 Lbs. or lower. I also think Savage knows how to make a quality barrel.
Remington or Winchester sporters shoot about the same to me, maybe out of ten guns of each make, Remington might have the edge in accuracy. In varmint rifles, I'd go with Remington or Savage.

    25-06

Thanks for the information. Personally have been a Remington supporter for bolt action type rifles, hard to beat an ADL or BDL. Winchester model 70's, pre 64, are getting ridiculous price wise.

In the past have hunted primarily with 30-06, .243., .270, etc., but do not currently own anything in 25-06, but give me time and that will change. Guaranteed.

Will probably begin my search for a Remington or possibly a Browning. Have always been a big supporter in, "you get what you pay for". Of course there's always a bargin out there if you search long enough, "even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then".
