WE ARE NOT A NATION OF LAWS!By Annamae L. Nedrow What ever happened to "We the People" and "Unalienable Rights"? I thought those rights granted us in the Constitution were God given; or has the Government decided that God doesn't exist, or that they are God's messengers?Our bill of rights is supposed to be a guideline for our Government. It is supposed to tell them when they have gone too far. Well, it seems that they've decided that it was only meant to be a suggestion because this is what they have done:Amendment ICongress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;Yet our children are not allowed to pray in school as a group. No one ever suggested that the prayers be silent so that the children could exercise their rights their own way. They just said they couldn't pray anymore.or abridging the freedom of speech,Yet our children no longer say the Pledge of Allegiance in school.or of the press,Yet our reporters are told that they aren't allowed to sit in on and report sessions of congress.or the right of the people to peaceably assemble,Yet people have been arrested for picketing since the days of the fight for women's rights for "obstructing the sidewalk" or for whatever other excuse the police can invent.and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.Yet the Government has some agencies that refuse to hear those petitions and therefore denies citizens their rights in both this Amendment as well as others.Amendment IIA well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,Yet the people are persecuted when they attempt to train such a Militia if the Federal or State Government does not first sanction it.the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.Yet the Government insists on registration of firearms and Licenses to carry. As well as putting restrictions on when and where they can be carried, what caliber as well as what kind of firearm can be owned. The government dictates the size and type of blades that can be carried or used by a Citizen for anything but show as part of a costume.Amendment IIINo soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.And the only reason this has yet to be done is because they have enough tax money that they either build new barracks or they take over hotels, near whatever threat they are dealing with.Amendment IVThe right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated,Yet there are constantly reports of automobiles, and homes being searched without warrants. Illegal seizures of firearms, and other tools of self-defense, which include, knives and collector swords. And ultimately the arrest of the owners for possession of these tools. A Sword kept in reach of the driver or passengers while going through some towns near Renaissance fairs are grounds for arrest and confiscation, even if they are costume pieces without an edge.And no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.Yet there are accounts of Federally licensed firearms dealers who have had their complete inventories confiscated for simple record keeping violations.Amendment VNo person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation.Yet some police stations have been known to sell confiscated property to make the money they need to buy things for their headquarters or precincts. No matter how noble the cause, is this still not against the law?Amendment VIIn all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation;Yet there are many cases where people are not told what they are arrested for until hours, or even days, after their arrest.To be confronted with the witnesses against him;Yet in the state of California in particular, it is against policy for the Child Protective Services to tell an accused parent who has brought charges against them for mistreatment of their own children.To have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.Amendment VIIIn suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury shall be otherwise re-examined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.Yet in most cases anything tried in Small claims court is not tried by a jury, but a judge and the same goes for divorces and most civil litigation. (Though I doubt many Americans really want to serve on a jury for something of that matter, but it should be an option open to the litigating parties.)Amendment VIIIExcessive bail shall not be required nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.And what is the definition of cruel and unusual? Most jail situations are just that, there are too many detainees in the same cell with no separation of those that show hostile intent towards their peers. It's been said that better accommodations and treatment are to be had in a federal or state prison than a county jail while waiting to find out what you are being charged with, and when you will be released.Amendment IXThe enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.Yet the Government is constantly taking away the rights of the citizens, for our own good of course. The government doesn't think the populace is intelligent enough to be able to discern what is right or safe. Instead the government passes a law that makes it mandatory to wear seatbelts while driving, and as a passenger in a car, a child under 12 years of age is unable to ride in the front seat of a car, helmets are mandatory to ride motorcycles, we can die for our country but we can't have a glass of wine with dinner, we may be old enough to follow orders but we are not old enough to think. "We the People" means the citizens, not the politicians, and these are OUR RIGHTS UNDER GOD.Amendment XThe powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.Yet the people are not only told what they can do...but also what they cannot do. They are not allowed to make their own decisions as far as their own safety at home but are allowed to risk life and limb for the Government.The Government has gone from being a servant of the people to the one being served. It is no longer the child of this country but the parent. Making it's own rules, not caring that the rules are unconstitutional. The citizens are not encouraged to grow within themselves. We no longer live in a republic, instead, a Monarchy has surfaced, led by the President and his "Parliament".The original leaders of our country became leaders because they were fed up with an oppressive government, a government that taxed its people without representation. They were expected fight to protect their country, but they weren't trusted with arms to be able to protect themselves.Whatever happened to a Government "for the people, by the people"? Well I don't know what happened to it, but I know that we need to get it back. WE the PEOPLE need to stand and take back what is ours. We can try to be heard, if no one is listening, we need to put down the pen and reclaim the sword, as those who went before us did, and those ahead of us will do. This land is ours! It doesn't belong to the United Nations or to the President, Senators, or Representatives. It belongs to the PEOPLE!This is my life and I would like to be able to actually LIVE! Not in fear that I'll be arrested for owning a firearm or having a sword. Not in fear that I'll get a ticket because I let my son ride in the front seat so he could be closer to me. Not in fear of losing my children to the Child Protective Services because one of my neighbors decided they didn't like me. I WANT TO LIVE!!! I WANT TO BE FREE! I want to be able to defend myself and my property. I want to be able to know I will be heard by my peers. I want to know that I don't need to hide from the police because they aren't to be trusted. This land is supposed to be the land of the free, and the home of the brave, and I want it back, I want to be FREE!First they came for the Communists,and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Communist.Then they came for the Jews,and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew.Then they came for the trade unionistsand I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a trade unionist.Then they came for the Catholics,and I didn't speak up, because I was a Protestant.Then they came for me,and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.Rev.
