I have been offered a good deal on a new Norinco 1911 and was just wondering what you the "Gun Experts" thought about this pistol. I would be using it for rec shooting and I.P.S.C. Thanks in advance for your time and for the info.

You mean 1911A1........Don't fall victim to the "gun bigots", which you'll find a lot of in the .45 auto crowd...there will be a ton of guys who will knock anything that doesn't cost $1000 or more or come from one of the fashionable "combat .45" boutiques...tell them to go hug a stump. I have a cheap Auto -Ordinance .45 which I'll put up against any practical combat pistol (after my special fitting and touch-ups of course), my best shootin buddy has an Argentine (sistema) .45 which works like butter, and the Norinco is every bit as good. Don't be freaked if you get it and it doesn't work perfectly out of the box. Every issue grade .45 needs a little "shooting-in" and tuning to work out the bugs, and they are sometimes ammo brand sensitive.....find someone who is familiar with 1911a1 fitting and polishing to help you set it up...but it's a GOOD PISTOL.

I've found that Wolf brand .45 ACP ball is great for breaking in a new 1911A1.

minute is right although my springfield armory 1911a1 isnt on the "lower" end of 1911's you dont need to spend 1000 bucks on one, however i have heard that the charles daly .45 have very soft metals and will fall apart on you, but the norinco should be a good pistol.

Springfield for me as well. They kick buttocks! I've got nothing against "lower end" 1911's, but I'm glad I spent the extra cash on my Springfield. I'm not going to trust my life to a $200 gun, but I wouldn't mind having one for a plinker!

See replies under Ask The Experts .To avoid a crapshoot when considering an off-brand gun, check thoroughly before you buy one.

Norinco's are a popular platform for a lot of race guns so my gunsmith tells me.I like mine just fine.Take the bucks you saved and buy more ammo.

I have or have had allmost every brand of m1911 that have been marketed over the last few years( colt-kimber-wilson etc) and vowed never to shoot or own one of the cheap imports(yadda yadda yadda). Anyway I was my local gun emporium one day and my gun guru showed me a used norinco that some local guy wanted to sell-it had the outrageous price of 800$ and I laughed my o so knowledgeable * off. Supposedly he had spent over 1000$ customizing it-I laughed again. I called the smith who had done the work and guess what-I was right again,he had not spent a 1000$ for the work, he had spent closer to 1500$(chortle chortle). To make a long short I bought the damned thing and its the best handling and best shooter I have ever owned.(But please please doant ever tell anybody OK?)
