A friend owns an old Spingfield model 1903 30-06 rifle. It is in great shape so I would like to take him to the range to fire the gun. It is missing the front site, anyone know where we could order him one? Also wondering if it is possible to somehow mount a scope on the gun? Was the gun first produced in 1903? When did they stop making it? He has had the gun about 15 years and never fired it. Although it has been used it has been used very little. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks, KW

Nope, they dont make them anymore, he should sell it, and I just happen to be in the market for one. These sights are plentiful, in Shotgun News, or Numrich Gun Parts Corporation. Think about having a gunsmith do the work though, its not for the amateur(?)spelling, but its a quick job for the qualafied. DO NOT PUT A SCOPE, OR ANYTHING ELSE ON THIS RECEIVER, I WILL HURT MYSELF IF YOU DO!!!!

I was on a drill team many years ago. Took the front sight sights off for some fancy maneuvers, and the firing pin out for safety. Sprintkw, see if your friend has checked for a firing pin before trotting off to the range.
