???'s about OHIO

I am thinking about moving to Ohio from Indiana and I have some questions for those of you that live and work there.
I need some information about Ohio's laws on concealed carry. I know that there was/is a bill going around that would make it legal to carry. Has it gone through? What are the details?
This is about working in Ohio, more specifically Findlay. I do lawn mowing and snow removal. Also some construction: re-roofing, additions, remodeling, garages, electrical and some HVAC. I was wondering do I need to be licensed for any of this?
Thanks for your help.

If we could get rid of Taft the State Senate and House would pass the bill, but they aren't willing to go over his veto, even though the House had an overwhelming majority vote in favor of it. Wimps.

It's a good thing you do more than mow and plow -we had almost no snow last winter, and this summer's drought has idled the lawn tractors. But Findlay has been in an economic boom for some time now, so you should have some construction work to do if you come.
Gun shops are rather scarce, and there is no gunsmith to be found. If you come, the only gun shop in town is TNT Firearms on Lima Ave.
Last winter I plowed 2 times and did 4-5 little clean-ups (drifted snow). This year I have missed close to two months of mowing do to the dry weather. What can you tell me about TNT are they good to due business with?

A city card requirement is that you have one year of schooling and one year OJT or two years OJT plus you'll have to take a test for the skill.
Without the certification freon will be impossible to buy.
Lima Ohio has some good gun shows every now and then. Bowlinggreen Ohio has as lack luster show during the winter month.

Your traitor. Why are you leaving us? It snows here too you know. Now you'll be a buckeye. I have been through Findlay on my way to Erie to fish at Marblehead. Nice town. What part of Indiana you leaving behind?
Rosie has pointed out a second gun store which I omitted, for two reasons: Jaqua's doesn't carry handguns, and they cater primarily to wealthy hobbyists -mostly trap and skeet shooters. I went in to buy some foam ear protectors one time, and I felt that I was being looked down upon. I was the only one in the store wearing blue jeans -everyone else looked like they they had just come from a celebrity golf tournament or something.
TNT is the blue collar store; it's small but they can get you what you want. I haven't been in a lot, but they seem to treat their customers well. There's also Rau's Gun Shop west of Continental(just one county away from Indiana, BTW). He's a little better stocked than TNT; I get a kick out of Mr. Rau -he hates dealing with change, so everything is priced on the dollar. How he keeps track of his sales tax is beyond me.
I forgot also about the shows alledan has mentioned. Lima is about 45 minutes SW of Findlay; Bowling Green about 25 minutes N.
It's not a sure thing that I'll be moving. My best friend and his family live in Findlay and would like me to move over there. I do like the town and there is a nice Fire Department north of Findlay that I could join. I am still looking at the pros & cons of staying or moving. I live in the NE corner now. And I will ALWAYS BE A HOOSIER.

Right now they carry on a long distance relationship but when he comes back to visit his folks and us, I really hastle them about going to Buckeye country.

Last time I was in jaqua's they had hand guns and that was about a year a go. Not many but some. And whats wrong with the wealthy? They have a right to like guns too!
Sorry I came across as knocking the wealthy -that wasn't intended. Some such people do, however, tend to look down on the rest of us, and that's the feeling I got when I was in Jaqua's at that particular time. I didn't feel welcome there. Also I called them late last fall and asked about handguns, and they said they didn't handle them. They referred me to TNT.
Can reserve police officers carry when not on duty? I have been kicking around joining the sheriff's reserve where I live now. It would definitely give me the last nudge to join a department if I move.
You have told me about the gun shops, thanks, but where do I shoot? I shoot pistols, rifles usually around 100 yards, some shotgun. I like a range that I can move around while I shoot, not just stand in one spot like a tree.
I rush in where others flee.
What are the laws about transporting pistols and long guns to shooting ranges?

I was just being a smart *. They do cater to target shooters but you should spend some time in there and get to know them. Trap, skeet and sporting clays are very expensive sports and that is the reason for all the well dressed people. When I buy a gun at Jaqua's it takes me at least five or six hours. I will go in and drool over all their guns, go to lunch and then go back and drool some more before buying and I always wear blue jeans! They will even let you shoot any used gun in the store all you want. Give them another try sometime. Respectfully, Rosie
Most of your questions I can't answer with 100% certainty, but I'll tell you what I believe to be accurate:
1)reserve off-duty carry: I believe you can, but would have to check with area LEO's.
2)transport: basic stipulation is that the gun must be inaccessible to the driver, which normally means putting it in the trunk. For trucks, long guns may be put on one of those racks fastened to the back of the cab behind the seat, or in the bed, as with handguns(with plenty of padding to take all the jostling!).
3)range: none meeting your conditions in the immediate Findlay area, with the exception of Jaqua's trap range(behind their shop). But I believe theirs is only used during competitions they hold periodically. Rosie might help here since he is more familiar with Jaqua's. I'm still in the hunt myself for good places to shoot rifle and pistol. I've visited two, and will probably become a member of the Leipsic Hunting and Fishing Club, which has a well-designed range on their property. I rather doubt if theirs would allow you the freedom of movement you would like, though. This range is about 30 minutes NW of Findlay. There are a few others outside of Findlay in other directions, probably around the same distance from town as Leipsic's, but I haven't visited them and so can't offer any helpful information.
the off duty carry is up to each dept. regulations. you may run in to a problem with your police officers basic training in ohio, they do not except most other states training, and will require you to go thru some, most, or all or our basic training. there is not even a grandfather claus for ohio officer if they change dept. they must make up the classes that have been added since they finished the basic training. if you are a full time officer at one dept. and take a second/part-time job at a different dept. you must update with required classes. i guess they want to keep instructors working!!
