Today has been a wonderful day here in northern Michigan. I took both of my boy's age 5 and 11-1/2 shooting today for the first time this year. We've been shooting the .177 pump pellet rifle all winter long inside at a "bomber" backstop. Skills really improved over the last few months. Even my youngest is a sure shot.
Today my oldest boy got to shoot his new .410 shotgun for the first time. 2 boxes and one sore shoulder later he's still talking about it.
My youngest got to shoot a .22 rifle for the very first time today.
WOW!! the smile that was on his face after the first few shot's.............WOW! What a wonderful day! Driving home today I thought back to the first times my father took me out shooting. Lasting Memories.....!

Enjoy those days with the youngin's. Like you say, spending quality time with them will create those lifelong "good" memories. That's part of what being a dad is all about!
"Just my opinion."
